After years of dating I have begun to wonder what it is that will make a guy fall for a girl. Are long-term relationships really so taboo that people would rather jump from one girl to the next never feeling loved or cared about?

I'm probably the wrong person to reply to this, but reading your profie you seem to have it all - sense of humor, intelligence, independence, ambition, adventure, and you're attractive to boot. You are in fact what real people are looking for.

If you're having bad dating experiences, the only thing I can suggest is that you might be looking too hard or in the wrong places. I think a lot of people consider this site a break from reality, so your chances of meeting real people here are a little slim. Not zero, but not great either.

I would suggest just trying to put yourself in situations where you're meeting more guys in
real life. Lots of ways to do that. But if dating sites are your thing, go to the more relationship-oriented ones like match and eharmony.

Best of luck to you!

@Marco
Awww. That was nice. Good advice too.

Here's my delema:
Men that are pathological liars.
I have one hell of a story for you! However, this seems to be a pattern in the type I attract. The last one was morbidly extreme! It's also the reason I finally made hubby leave.
Why do men do this so often. Lies even when there's nothing to lie about???

Help me, Dr. Marco!

Marco covered it well.

I mostly meet guys who want something serious when I'm busy focusing on other things.

Even the decent guys I meet turn out to be complete a**holes. I don't understand why guys don't ask girls out in person anymore. It comes down to anti-social dating sites where men can pretend to be something they are not until you meet, then they only want one thing.

This time oof year they want football and beer and pizza.

They always want sex, but not during the game.

They want a fast car. They think they'll outrun the county mountie but they're wrong.

They want a little love and affection and a POSITIVE attitude.

Dr Laura has a good book on this subject. There's probably a copy you could download.

Men want women who are women. Men lie WOMEN lie!! In society today women have a penis envy complex. This I'm independent don't need a man attitude will get you single & a lot of cats for the rest of your life. Be a WOMAN, no family can really survive today without THE family unit...GOD father mother children. The media sets the standard of what's right or wrong, what's good or bad, what's beautiful or not etc. You don't have to be attractive to be loved or not lied to. Personality & the right attitude goes a very long way. Stop looking for security in a man or guys that you think that you can manipulate. I'm trying to make this short & sweet but ladies there is NO such thing as a perfect man or woman. Be open minded stop searching for pretty boys & guys that you might think have $$$. #1 rule be yourself!! Don't lower your standards adjust them. MPHS,TN

ha... Dr Marco... sometimes I do feel like I could write a book

Here's how I look at it. DH is kind of a cross section of a certain demographic, likely one that has a higher concentration of shallow jerkwads. Guys in general have sex on their minds a lot more than women, unless it's just me. But there are probably thousands of tools who signed up under the pretense that "hookup" = booty call. So it would be naive to think these are the same guys and gals you will run into at, say, the park.

ok, more at a later date, including some actual advice since you asked Cinamon.

Dr. Marco
I'm not talking DH. I don't take this site seriously. It's just a good laugh for me.

As for the rant from the other one above you - I just dumped a rich guy cuz he spent too much & LIED more. I don't worship the almighty dollar & I sure as HELL don't have "penis envy". I don't need someone to "take care of me". I live on a farm & do quite well on my own, thank you. You, however, sound like you need vallium.

The part you put in as Family unit I will agree with EXCEPT the GOD part.

Rate of attendance

The Gallup International indicates that close to 40% of Americans report they regularly attend religious services, however the numbers that actually do attend are less than half that claimed. This compares to other countries claims such as 15% of French citizens, 10% of UK citizens, and 7.5% of Australian citizens.

As for this site I would say 75% lie, (Men and Women}. The paid sites I have been on fair just a hair better. Have met too many women who claim of job, house and car they have, but don't.
That's just the ones I have met. As far as sex goes a lot of the women also want that, they are just more discrete about it.

I don't know if this has been covered yet, but as far as my perspective as a man goes:

All I want is a woman who is there for me that likes to do things with me...naughty things...but also normal things. It's really all about "things". It does help to also have "me time" and "your time" since that is important for a healthy relationship. Occasionally, there would also be a "Terrific Lady Day" where I would treat her to a day all for her.

If a woman showed up at my door dressed as a German bar maid with a pizza, a liter of German bier, and a promise of sex after...I would be a happy man

Most men are selfish, envious, jealous and vain. Not many that aren't. I can honestly say that I have exhibited all these at one time or another in my life. Just not all at once, I hope. There is one thing that I am and that is honest. Sometimes brutally so. Have gotten myself into alot of heated discussions because of it. Have even lost a jobs because I don't want to try and compromise. If they don't want to hear that they should pull their head out their ass, they shouldn't have shoved it up there in the first place. Nuff said!!

I don't "church" mostly because it's filled with people preaching what they never seem to practice. I rarely date because everyone claims they want honesty but they only want to hear a select few truths. In my experience, the women do what they blame men for. Lying, infidelity, manipulation. Often they claim it was always someone else's fault for a failed relationship, but never seem to look in the mirror. My last two dates from this site were: "I'm not happy in my relationship, I'm looking for a man that can move me in so I can leave my husband."

I want a SINGLE woman who can take care of herself. One that is responsible in action, not just words. Preferably one that isn't like a monkey holding one limb until she has a firm grip on another and has some compassion and doesn't walk on others to get what she wants.

But, obviously, that is too much to ask for.
