Todays relationship is such a got damn joke. Those who are in them are only interested in the benefits but dance around and sidestep the responsibilities.

In a REAL relationship there is no privacy. Privacy in a relationship it's like having kitchen cabinets. lol A great place to hide bugs and rodents.

A real relationship is built upon trust as a part of its foundation. There is no trust if you have to hide certain aspects of your life from the person you're supposed to be giving yourself to 100%

you say, "he demanded to have" yet; i also read how you said, 'after' he gave you his tumblr password. this leads me to surmise that you, first, "demanded" for his password.

my answer:
one really shouldn't try and hold another to a higher standard, than they wouldn't expect of themselves.

I never ask another person for their password, and if they asked for mine, I would point them to the door.

I do not have to worry about it though, I do not have any one.

It's the demand, that makes it most problematic, and makes it a negative indicator. I'd recommend you go in and change your password as soon as you can, and then don't tell him the new one.

Then re-do the discussion, and have him explain what it is that HE did during his trip, which suddenly made him think YOU were messing around behind HIS back.

I think there should be privacy and when the question arises to exchanging passwords than it's probably time to call it quits. Depending on what kind of passwords anyway. If it's to your phone, okay. If it's to you laptop, no. There's either gonna be trust or there isn't and no amount of knowing passwords or screen names is gonna strengthen that.

Or give it him...and then change it immediately

Wow!

Ok first.
He went on a buisness trip...over the weekend?
Is what I presume because that's when you created a thread about him not calling.
When he decided to call, it was on a Sunday...going by the day you posted he called.

Now he comes back and demands your password to fb...you thought "ok" cause he gave you his to "whatever" site you're speaking.

I think you need to wake up...the guy wants to see if first....you know someone that he may know on fb....
Maybe his buisness partner.
And or he wants control because he knows that his shit ain't right.

Now you can be all naive if ya want to...but that's how I see it.

And to answer you question...
Yes people should have some privacy...more so in a relationship then in a marriage.

He wants to control you because he knows he did his thing out of town while you waited for two days for him to call.
Now he's trying to do a reverse care, your mine and mine only act cause he is not yours and yours only.

Trust me on this...I've seen it.

Wake the hell up.

Let me revise privacy in a marriage...I believe in a marriage that there should be some privacy.
However, marriage and a relationship/dating is different therefore I believe one should have more privacy.
You don't have his last name..so

Being in a relationship does not preclude having things that are just your own. A well-adjusted and mature adult understands that they do not get to have access to every part of another person's life. Everyone gets a little privacy and respect. They also get trust and realization of boundaries.

When my husband was alive we had a shared email, and each of us also had our own and we did not even think to ask for those passwords. We also didn't share our FB passwords or any other that didn't pertain to us. There were times that either of us gave the other a password to something for some particular event, but neither of us ever remembered it to use later.

Your guy demanded it. Why? His giving you the password to something as if proving his openness was manipulative. If he just gave it to you and said, "see? I have nothing to hide? Why are you resisting giving yours to me? Do you have something to hide?" Or did you start it by questioning him about his activities and he threw the password to you to try and reassure you and stop you?

I've been in a relationship for close to four years now, and I never asked for any of his passwords nor demanded that we share everything as some proof of our love or our fidelity. He hasn't asked, either. If either one of us did demand, I would think it's a indication of a much larger problem.

He should not demand anything there should be enough trust to show him your Facebook account and other accounts at any time. Why hide things from him, because it only looks suspicious. but he needs to be open and willing to show his accounts to you too. If he doesn't then there might be a problem.

do you think people in a relationship should have some privacy ?

Somewhat.

I mean if we live in a one bedroom apartment together trying to save money to pay down student loans or something I sure as hell don't want you leaving the bathroom door open while you take a dump, nor do I want to leave the door open to try and communicate I am all comfortable and lovey with you.

I also don't really want to hear you talk to your mother, or sit there and watch you while I talk to mine.

I also like a nice, quiet, uninterrupted work space where I can do my quarterly government a** raping called taxes.

I think some privacy is necessary.

But part of developing a relationship is setting up expectations and boundaries about what privacy is wanted or needed.

So, really, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks people "should" do in a relationship...it matters what you want in yours.

Or is it okay to have each others passwords?

Only if I want them to have the passwords.
Personally, if they gave me theirs I'd probably shred them and never use them unless I was executor of their will or something and it was necessary for settling affairs after death.

But if it's some sort of ultimatum then I'm going to tell them to eat my ass.
Then it's not a matter of passwords but some sort of control issue.

This.

I can't imagine any scenario other than the one mentioned here where I ever needed to look at his FB or his email or anything. It isn't a question of hiding anything or thinking they are, or even that he'd have balked at letting me look at anything I wanted to see, much like he wouldn't have balked at me going through his wallet.

But why would I? What possible reason do I need to have full and total access to any of that?

Especially if we're just dating? If we're married, we'd have joint things, and things that are ours alone. If I grant you access to something, that's my decision, not yours.

I used to work with a woman whose boyfriend demanded total access to everything. Not only her personal phone, and email (this was before FB), but also her work cell phone, work desk phone, and work email.

She thought it meant he loved her so very much since he was so jealous and so interested in what she did when she wasn't with him.

So she allowed him access to all of it, because, after all, she had nothing to hide. All of this just escalated, and she lost her job because of things he did--that she allowed him access to.

Me to women

I don't want your password.

I don't want to see your phone.

I don't care how many social networks your on.

I don't care if another guy calls you sexy on Facebook.

That's how I feel about the whole thing. ^^^

if you're really THIS clueless to dating and relationships (referencing all your previous posts about your relationship problems), then nothing we will say is going to help you OP

I never ask another person for their password, and if they asked for mine, I would point them to the door.

I do not have to worry about it though, I do not have any one.

Absolutely. They wouldn't have time to unpack their bags they'd be gone so fast.

i mean, to each their own, but all of your insecurities about him, and all your stories, seem to really paint a huge field full of red flags.

i've been engaged, i've been in lengthy monogomous relationships, and never have i been DEMANDED for my password. I do believe i once gave my facebook password, but that was before screenshots and whatnot, and i had received a not-so-nice message from a friend of the guy i was with and wanted him to see it. but he didn't keep it for spying purposes.

to each their own, but ... wow, just wow OP
