OP - More like you know it is not a good idea, but are afraid to admit it. If he can't commit to being monogamous for a few months, there is no way he can do it for life. Are you under the impression that a commitment is some sort of magical behavior leash?
You "really" want a commitment of a monogamous relationship?
Then learn to pay attention to who he is, what he does, and what he means by what he says.
His words of commitment should be confirmation of his behavior, not the other way around.
If you rely on him telling you he is committed before you start paying attention to whether or not he's going to live up to it, if he can live up to it, or even what he means by his idea of what commitment is, then you are always playing catch up, always learning, and you never "really" know.
