It seems the fighting genre has falling off the last 2 to 3 years I rember back in the golden days when SF and mortal kombat first came out tons of people were playing it... But now it seems more gamers are focus on FPS games why is that?

Probally because the genre became oversaturated.
There are loads of fighting games...loads.
I havent really seen anything innovative in a LONG time.

Yeah I notice that to but nothing that authentic sort to speak even with the latest installment of street fighter 4 maybe it's just me but it didn't excite me that much.

I think it's a hard genre to be innovative with because they're based on such a simple premise. The basic concept is rush forward and beat the hell out of your opponent. I've seen a few over the years that to have any chance you had to really memorize the special moves and time them just right. I thought that was a cool development, but I think they turned people off because they were initially frustrating compared to button mashers like Tekken.
I think it's also because with FPS's and adventure games, you pay $60 and can veg out for hours. With fighters, at least for me, 30 minutes is about the max for a gaming session. I'm OK with that because I don't like spending all day on video games but I know a lot of my gamer friends want something they can kill a whole night on.

Unfortunately yes.....its mirrored the fall of the arcade fighting scene...still huge in Japan it now seems relegated to small pockets in the states....I miss the days of going down to the arcade and battling on tekken tag or street fighter vs snk....good times

Oversaturation in the fighting markets. With the oversaturation with the multiple fighting games, the fighting games weren't as unique as they had first were and the fighting games in general were starting to become repetitive. For example, TMNT Tournament Fighters (a game that I personally Love BTW) was basically a poor man's Street Fighter if you actually study the special moves closely. That and the emerging market overseas in my opinion were innovate kind of put American fighting games on the back burner for good.
That said, I STILL play the old Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Fatal Fury, and Tekken games, but the foreign market in it appeal and innovation leads me to buy games from them nowadays......gamer

Been playing a lot of old school fighting games such as rival schools 2, snk vs capcom that inspired me to make this topic. Maybe some game developer will come up with a new idea to implement in fighting games but time will tell

I will say this, we are somewhat at a dying age for fighting games. I remember back in the Sega Dreamcast days we were bombarded with fighting games. Dreamcast was the last real good system for fighting games. Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 and 2, Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 1 and 2, street fighter 3 3rd strike and, double impact, project justice (which is rival schools 3) the list goes on. To me fighters are like a rare obscurity, we haven't really seen too many lately. King of fighters 13 was the last fighter I got. You should check the teaser trailer for SF5, you'll be astonished.

Nailed it.
Id like to see a remake of killer instinct. Or a bushido blade type fighter with good graphics and storyline.
