I got my first deer, an 8 point buck, unfortunately, it was not with a gun.
Once upon a dark night dreary,driving speedily down a two lane country road,
I spied the broad side of a huge buck. At first he was lazily stepping across opposing lane. Could have been my screeching brakes that encouraged him. Somehow, I was in slow motion. Yet, he was breaking into high gear heading across my lane.
I can now tell you why the deer crossed the road. But he did not make it to the other side unscathed. As I was breaking and determined to not swerve, he was digging into the highway, hind quarters stretched like a baseball player stealing home plate. Although holding the steering straight, and breaking as much as I could, both his hind legs got caught under my front passenger tire. Pops like a big stick breaking, then a ka-thug under the floor board.
For a brief second, I thought about turning around but there was nothing I could have done for the poor animal. I drove slowly looking for a landmark, Guy Stephens Road on Hwy 185 South. A few miles later, I pulled into a drive way with exterior lights on a garage.
No apparent fender damage, just a missing parking light and black plastic guard hanging below the radiator. So I removed my jeans belt and strapped the plastic guard.
I called my son, the bow and black powder hunter, he refused to come look for a deer that likely got away. Then I called the men I can always depend upon, the KY State Police Barracks in Bowling Green to report a terrorist deer in need of rescue from a lethal woman.
Today, I took my car to the garage. That buck managed to kick my parking light out from the underside of my car. Very lucky there was no other damage.
Now you DH'ers just do what you do best. And finish this story, I would love to know what passed through my Deer's mind and where did he go as I left the scene. Promise, it was not a reindeer and regardless, I know he did not have a red nose.

Got hit by a deer last November. Course I was in someone else's vehicle and it did enough damage to almost total the truck. Saw it out of the corner of my eye as it was in it's final leap and WHAM, BAM, all the way down the side of the truck. No kidding it hit us. Was on Cumberland Parkway near Jamestown.

SO, the insurance agency decided to add a clause to the policy saying that they were not liable if you were in an accident with a deer. The fine print read "will require you to file your claim with the deer's insc. company" since so many are hitting your vehicle.

To say goodbye to the old year and hello to the new year, I bought a new car on Dec 31. Exterior is black as is the interior, hoping I will just blend into the night and those deer will not seek and find me again. But incase they do, full coverage is the way to go.
