Joe didn't Michigan do a canoe trip group meet? That's sounds like it would be fun but I never went on one from here.

Yep. I think it was 2008 or 9. The picture on my profile with the red shirt and tent in the background is from that trip. There was about 30 people that went. Sassymama, her man and kids. Cary and Tammy. Cin and Forrest. Lori. Me. Donna. Vicki and Wayne. Linda (lighthouse). Jen. And a bunch more. Cin got wasted on the river. So did Sassy. Linda didn't want to paddle, so she rode in my canoe, with me doing all the paddling and steering. Sassy got so wasted we dumped her in the bottom of my canoe before she got hurt. LOL It was a good time. I'd love to do something like that again.

Quote from ericr64:
Summer group meets were my favorite. Joe used to rent all the rooms at the White wagon motel and we'd eat drink and be merry at the bar next door. The crazy train bus would make stops and drop loads of happy people off for 20 minutes then they'd be off.

Camping meets were fun too. Hopefully we get enough regulars to try again. We had a wide age range and everyone seemed to have a good time.
I miss Crazy Cary, lol.

I never made it up to White Wagon. Cary and Tammy are doing good (last I heard). I talk to Tammy every once in a while, but haven't in a few months. The Wings viewing parties we had were fun, too. The one in Howell was pretty fun. After they lost to Crybaby, we all went in to the back part of the lodge (I think it was the Eagle's, could've been the Moose) and sang karaoke. Then the one we had closer to Detroit. I think you were at that one, Eric.

Cin always had a party at her house Labor Day weekend, too. My girls and I stayed the weekend there a couple of times. My youngest got stung by a wasp at the play structure and bounced off the back of Cin's big golf cart. LOL The picture on my profile of me in the Tiger's shirt with the fire teepee in the background is from one, and the one with me, Striker and Sassy was at another.

I tried to get people to go roller skating and play laser tag when I worked at the rink a couple years back. No one was interested. We could always get a group together and go skydiving.

You should read the "Skydiving" post in my blog (on here). There is no feeling like it on Earth. Being 12,000+ feet in the air, belly flat to the Earth, knowing that you are falling at 120 MPH......I can't really describe the feeling. I love roller coasters, too, but they don't hold the same level of thrill that they used to after my first jump. There's a picture from my first jump (the one in the air) and after my first free fall (holding the parachute) on my profile. Where I learned, our first 12 jumps were static line jumps, like the military does in all of the WWII movies. After that you progress through different levels of difficulty (learning how to turn, barrel roll, back flip, etc) while falling and your altitude goes up with every couple of jumps.

This was jumping into a high school homecoming football game for the National Anthem.

I want a bird suit. I had reoccurring dreams about wearing them for years.

First I'm standing in the wind in a coat... I hold the coat sides out, catch some air then lift up. It always morphs into a winged suit and I'm hauling balls over the hills. I don't want to wake up from those dreams.

Eww... this gives me an idea for the HYE thread, lol.

It really causes minimal effect. If you look at the structure of a parachute, they look like an airplane wing from the side, and have open pockets in the front that fill with air and stiffen the fabric to create the wing. The flag has no pockets and causes only a small amount of drag. The bigger it is, the more it does have an affect, but it's still not so much as to cause a problem.

For those who want to go skydiving, www.dropzone.com. Here is there page with the drop zones in Michigan. I used to jump with the guys who opened Skydive Allegan. I know that everyone talks about going to Tecumseh, but I won't go there. They've gotten so busy over the years that you don't get the same "personal" experience you get from small DZs. The next closest one to me is in Midland.

There is a TON of skydiving related information on that site. Classifieds, forums, pictures, videos. It's a great site for those into, or looking to get into, skydiving.

I tell everyone who decides jump to NOT do a tandem jump. 99% of the time they get hooked and want to keep going. Tandem jumps don't count toward licensing.

I always told myself if I decide to jump I'll pay extra money, take a longer class or do whatever it takes to jump solo!
Thanks for the affirmation!

It's true, depending on what type of class you take. If they do "static line" classes (like I took and the military does on mass insertions) it's less up front. If the do what's called "AFF" or "Accelerated Free Fall", it costs more, but you progress through the "student" stage quicker. With AFF you actually jump with 2 jump masters and they show you, in the air, how to maneuver. You'll just have to look on dropzone.com and see what type of class each DZ offers. SL is static line, T is tandem, etc. You can then contact that DZ and schedule your class. We got about 30 guys from work, plus my brother and his gf to all go at the same time.

You'll love it. I was hooked after my first class. My wife (who was pregnant with our second) and my 2 year old were there to watch me jump. I made her wait around another hour after so I could do another. LOL

Kind of a cool story of my first jump. When I landed on the ground, my 2 year old came running up to me, yelling, "Dadddddyyyyyy" and gave me a huge hug. I miss that little girl. She's 14 now.

Here she is helping to pick up the chute.....

Now you all know why my favorite username, and previous one on here, is "planejumper73" (I was born in '73).

My oldest kissed a boy in kindergarten. They both have, or have had, "boyfriends" already. My youngest since September and she kept it a secret until her mom looked at her phone and saw all of the text messages. They were all innocent, but her mom was not happy that she kept it from her. I'm not so uptight about it. I tease them about it, but that's pretty much it. My girls have both been raised "right", so I'm not worried about either one of them doing something stupid. Their younger step-sister on the other hand, will likely get pregnant at 14, like her aunt did. Yes, my oldest has a cousin who is her age. His mom got pregnant when she was their (my daughter and her cousin) age. By a 21 year old. He spent some time in jail because of it.

Thanks. I'm so proud of them both. My youngest was struggling at school the beginning of the year. Getting all "C"s. This last parent-teacher conference, last week, she has 1 "B" and the rest are all "A"s. The "B" was an 89%, so almost an "A". The oldest always gets "A"s.

My oldest is a cheerleader. She cheered for football, then made the competitive cheer team. She's a freshman and made the JV team. When the JV season ended, she was invited to join the Varsity team for the rest of their season and they went to states. She's 14 and almost as big as me, so she's a "base".

They were both in girl scouts, too, but the oldest quit. She didn't like the leaders and didn't really get along with a few of the other girls. She's not signing up next year, either. Cheer takes up too much of her time for her to be involved in much else. The youngest wants to try out for cheer next year, too.

Like we've never talked family stuff before, Joe. People talk about the things they are passionate about on dating sites. I'm passionate about my kids.
