yeah, get a can of cat food, fish flavor, and punch holes in it, tie a string on it, and let it dangle in water from a tree limb or something, fish will swim up river to it.

I freeze the shrimp heads form my east coast shrimp camp with non iodized salt and canola oil to help preserve and make a slick. Usually put them in a metal basket so they have to try to suck them through....you want to attract not fill them up. I save all the bacon, sausage, and ham grease and also mix it with canola to make a flavorful sheen on the water...man at the softshell turtles I attract also they are probably the finest eating of anything in fresh water Florida. The finer you break anything down before releasing it, the less you are going to fill them up and the more you will draw them... the current and wind are your friends..... an old sink with a garbage disposer mounted on it over a five gallon bucket is an easy way to prepare your liquid mash, always remember the oil...canola has the least smell of its own and will carry the sent you put in it a long way. Good Luck

Ever try the old "Whiskey-Delta" brine? I've caught many halibut and yellow-eye using that trick...

Not familiar with that one, but have tried WD 40 without much success and I make my own "injection" up there with the minced garlic soaking in canola oil and use the turkey basting injector to fill the herring with it. It works as good as any of the expensive store bought ones I have tried.....fishon! I am only 1+1/2 mile from the Deep Creek Tractor Launch up there in Ninilchik.

yeah, get a can of cat food, fish flavor, and punch holes in it, tie a string on it, and let it dangle in water from a tree limb or something, fish will swim up river to it.
You can also make something like a slip float to float the can around over an area. Small fish and large fish are attracted to the scent, small fish can feed easily off the particles that may fall from the can, and cats will feed on the small fish.
Our biggest cats have come on live bait, 6-8 inch chubs or shiners, you don't really need a stink bait, just a good location?
If you live in an area that has a lot of small shad? Net a bunch of them and cut them in half and freeze them. You can use them for bait or chum.

I do a very easy chum that is very affective. Take all your fish guts and old left over bait bacon dripping and put it in bucket with a good lid. Take a few pounds of either grain corn oats milo. Put it in there and dump a beer over the top and leave it in the sun for 3*5 days for it to sour. Pour the slop into pantie hose. Tie it to a limb or something. Fish with fresh BEEF liver. Good luck

That is a great idea, I go to a close out store and get old corn meal and flour, sometimes free when it gets bugs in it and do similar just to make a scent trail in a flowing creek.
A really good bait is to mix vinegar and flour, make dough balls the size you want to fish with then drop them in boiling water. They come out like rubber..you can actually bounce them...they stay on the hook good and very slowly disintegrate leaving a smell trail. I have used them mainly on trotlines and brush hooks.
