oh he did something REALLY bad then

customarily who ever gets the house has to pay out the other in "equity" ..if they're up to their eye teeth in payments..she got a big mortgage (as was my case) which was worse than nothing.

OP - The problem was not the marriage. It was the way the fool bought the house, and also probably the way he cheated on his wife, abused her, etc. If you ever get married, set up a corporation before the marriage...before you even meet your bride to be...buy a house, car, etc, in the corporation's name, let the corporation own the house, car, furniture, etc, and rent them to you on a monthly basis. If you then meet someone, and marry, and she divorces you, she can't get the house, car, etc, because they never belonged to you. The corporation is legally a third person. Since your ex did not marry the corporation, she gets no share of what it owns. Then, too, treat your wife nicely, and she won't be so apt to want to divorce you.

Been through one myself I know the way it works. I bought her out.

My friend moved out his wife stayed in the house and there was a lot of marital debt. House was paid for so equity was there to divvy up but the debt has to be satisfied. He though he could pull a fast one but judge has seen it all.

He has a GF with grown kids that he is banging. Kids still in her life as he helped her son move. Oh well to each his own.

I gave everything i had up except my conversion van,my 12 guage, and some clothing when i left my first ex.
leaving everything to the ex was a lot less pain, headaches, and additional heartache.
I value my peace of mind much much more.
people tend to look down on a woman having not much more than her peace of mind.

your friend will survive. I did.

so much for whiners.

The same guy's brother married a woman with 2 kids and they had 2 of their own in the marriage. She started running around so they divorced with him keeping the house. BUT he had to pay her alimony and child support which took away most of his paycheck. Talking about bitter you should meet this guy!

Its a huge shame, I had never heard of alimony till i started on the internet, It isn't something that happens in Australia even now, just the really rich seem to do it... even then it is usually split up but to ask for alimony, I am totally against it.

Alimony seems to be an American thing.

I never received ANYTHING. If we had bought a house then we sold it and split the proceeds in two, even. I never even got child support when the courts decided that the 'child' (set up a bank account) was supposed to get $60 per week.. and even that only once was $60 deposited...

The kids and I managed quite well. It was hard going but I worked.

Why would any women but herself down so much as to ask for support and be dependent to her 'EX". Boo!

I don't know how they bought the house but if you're saying he bought this house before he met her, and then she got the judge to give her the house by buying him out ----- that couldn't be me.

My Lawyers better make it where we sell the house or something and get equal payout or something.

And they had no kids??

That's one of the factors that Women gets everything when kids are involved because they need a roof over their head and a Mother more so than a Father ... (Liberal courts opinions )

In this dude case, they had no kids and she still got the house, too.

Smgdh.....

.....couldn't be me.

Six short months we went together
Decided it should be forever
Two paychecks are better than one
A diamond ring and it was done
Bought her a house like I said I would
In sub-divided neighborhood
The fuse got short and the nights got long
It was over long gone
Before I knew
Where I was headed to

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

Things like this are never final
I'm still payin' on the vinyl
Flooring in the laundry room
It's multi-colored and waterproof
It's a little bit tough to face my friends

The ones that said I jumped in
The river of love a little too soon
That was August
This is June and it's a different tune

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I can't believe what the judge had to tell us
I got the Jeep she got the two bedroom
Mortgage is due
Siding light blue palace
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas
I'm goin' through the big D
And don't mean Dallas

I handled my divorce well since there was no kids involved just a house and assets. Her lawyer dragged it out to get his billing hours up for over 2 yrs. We paid for our own legal fees. Once we separated I got a GF and had a good time. The GF started to pressure for marriage right off the bat. Damn women fall in love so easy...

$ wise my ex made out like a bandit

I worked two jobs putting him thru school to MBA level, he took all the stuff in the house, the car...

I got the house and still had to buy him out I got no alimony and I'm suppose to get child support based off of his college salary which was super low while he's off making 100g somewhere...

He doesn't pay anyway nor do I even know where he is.

So your friend getting a buy out and losing the house?

Ya so did my ex. It's not the entire story either. I'm still the one who $ wise got screwed over. But the loss of him? Totally worth it

@kartuch

Each case is different but you can pursue the child support interstate if you want to. IRS has his return based on SS#. Google the process and the law will do it for you free.
