I sell cars for a living and a lot of the job just comes down to getting as many customers as you can ("upping" customers) and then trying to maximize the profit each deal in a reasonable way (that's fair for everybody)

I find the job to be incredibly easy. I am extremely aggressive in how many customers I take per month and I can be extremely charming and intelligent in how I work deals so it's just a job I can do with my eyes closed

With that being said, I sometimes feel bad for taking the big piece of pie as I do (I am 3% of the store but I account for 6% of the business). There are people all around me at the store, as well as everywhere else, who live paycheck to paycheck who sometimes struggle to make ends meet. These people at my job, if they had the same motivation, work ethic and confidence as I do, they would all be similarly successful but they just don't have it. I am extremely hungry too - I'm never happy with what I make, I always want more, more, more, more.

Is there something wrong with what I do and how I think? I try to be very ethical in what I do - I don't cut in front of other employees, I'm fair towards everybody, etc... but is it wrong for someone like myself with very few bills to take up such a big piece of the pie? Or should I just say f**k everybody else and try to make as much money as possible? We are all given the same opportunity.

I sold cars years ago (some kind of work release program) 12 hours on your feet Monday-Saturday and cold calling wasn't my idea of a great job. But if you're good at it... good for you.

It would bore me to death - but if you are making a reasonable living at it no need to be ashamed.

Hell - I even like one of the sales guys at the Mazda dealership..

He let me take an RX8 on the highway up to 210 kph...nice car but bad on gas..I bought a MazdaSpeed3 instead.

and at no point in this bs brag to attract some inbox action did you mention any JOY in your life from your job.

as far as Sales goes the mover shaker gets the money, that's how it works, it's a form of self employment and capitalism at it's best.

I do enjoy my job, although it's not anything honorable or meaningful so it's only so much I can really enjoy it. At the end of the day, I'm just getting paid quite a bit because I can manipulate people through my charisma to do what I want

I have also found in a long life, that those who proclaim a trait, or brag about an attribute, tend not to have that attribute.

Do you talk your customers into more than they want/need or more than they can really afford just to make more money?

Do you "steal" customers from your co-workers?

Do you feel superior to your co-workers because you were fortunate enough to have been born with gifts or acquired skills in your upbringing that they don't have?

If so, yes...you're doing something wrong.

If not...a person who makes a lot of money can do a lot of good, if that's what he chooses.

I don't talk my customers into more than they want or need, hell I try to convince them to buy cheaper cars than they want to keep it in their budget. However I do try to get them to pay more than what they want (in terms of negotiation on the specific car) because I get paid on gross profit. I try to put them on cars in their budget that pay me the most profit but are still very good cars. A perfect used car for me is a unique used car that's both a very good deal to the customer and a great deal for me in terms of a fat commission check.

I don't steal from anybody

I don't feel superior to anybody

you make it sound like owning your own business is super easy like that

I get around 20-30% of the profit of each deal while not having to do anything in terms of operational, not having to pay for any of the overhead, not having to market the product, not having any risk at all, not worrying really about how well the company is doing as long as I continue to dominate
