So this week I get to babysit my kid's dogs while they are away. Thought it would be a good time to do a doggie portrait but the dog didn't like the idea and bit me.

It gets lonely watching TV by yourself with no night life whatsoever. Men look at me strange and walk away without a word. Think I'll go shopping tonight for some dog treats maybe that will get the dogs to like me.

How do you get a dog not to snap at you?

OP - Teach the dog that YOU are Alpha...the boss. Get down on the dog's level, Use your hands to grab, and to flip the dog over on it's back, and then grab the dog by the throat. Do not squeeze hard enough to hurt the dog...just hard enough to convey the idea that you could kill it if you wanted to. Speak soothingly to the dog, while holding it's throat, and tell it to "stay." Slightly relax your grip on the dog, while repeating the command to stay. If the dog tries to get up, put it down, hold it down, and tighten your grip on it's throat for a few moments. Then speak to the dog, tell it to stay, relax a bit, and so on. Keep doing so until the dog stays when told, even after you let go of it completely. After it has stayed still-without you touching it-wait a few moments, and then say, "up!", and let the dog get up. Pull it up if you must. Repeat this as often as need be until the dog submits to your control.

There is no equality in the dog world. Everyone is either in the pack, or out of the pack. Those in the pack are all above, or below, others in rank...like the Army. You are a private, or you are The General. The dog bosses you, or you boss the dog. Until you convince the dog that you are it's boss, it will behave as if it is your boss. When the dog is boss, it can bite you, or do anything else it wants to you. You are the dog's toy / bone....or you are the dog's Master. When you are Master, the dog will not dare bite you.

Take them to a doggy park. Play tennis balls. Give them food. Not much different than babysitting a grown man lol. Play, food, play, food

no I've done it with our 130# French Mastiff, he's hit adolescence and decided to challenge me while our Alpha Male Sweetie was at work, I"m Alpha when he's not here..period....they both behaved (the female Suzi the 85# bulldogge fell in line just because Gabe did)

it's not abusive but when challenged it's appropriate watch Cesar Milan it's all about the psychology.

and this is ALL psychology right here
