dombrowski has failed????
yeah, the bullpen is a problem, at least from the vantage point we have today. I have little to no trust in Nathan. I think Soria will be improved. With Albuequerque you get good one day and bad the next. Gorzolany will help us. I still think they should have kept Blaine Hardy on this team, instead of sending him down. All our hopes were on Rondon, but now that is AGAIN on hold.
I think that Shane Greene will help us, not so certain about Alfredo Simon.
But in terms of overall team defense, this team is way better than last year. Having Iglesias in the field for the full year will be a huge help for our pitchers. Can they kid hit enough? Hard to say, but they have him there for his glove. The outfield defense is so much better. Gose in center will be a big upgrade compared to what we had in center after Jackson was traded last year. Cespedes is a huge upgrade in both the field and in the middle of that lineup. JD Martinez is better than average in the outfield, and we can only hope he will have a season at the plate like last year.
Avila again? OK, for a while. But I am excited to see what the McCann kid can do.
Biggest drawback to the Tigers? yup, it's still the bullpen and the manager. What Ausmus showed us in the playoffs last season was abysmal. If this team is underachieving in mid season, Alan Trammell may get the team he deserved to have when he managed for us years ago.

a good start today.......Price goes 8 and 2/3 and even Nathan can't blow the Opening Day festivities......Cespedes looked awesome, Iglesias was rock solid in the field, and even Avila showed he can go to the opposite field........amazing.
meanwhile, the yankees took a beating.
A GREAT day!

So far, so good again today. 7-0 in the bottom of the 5th. The Twins are just putting in the 3rd pitcher.
As far as Iglesias goes. Yes, he's there for his glove. Yes, he didn't hit worth a crap during Spring Training, but he already has 5 hits in 2 games. Hopefully he can keep it up and stay healthy.
J.D. Martinez and Castellanos are both off to a good start, as is Avila.
Asmus wasn't the greatest last post-season, but it was his first as a manager. There IS a learning curve.
At this point, all we can do is wait and see.

hey, vbg, good to see you out here......
the Tigers did as they should do with a team as bad as the Twins, they swept them!!!
how they swept them is noteworthy, the twins were shut out for almost 25 innings of play. The run they did score was unearned. Our pitching was dominant. The fielding was excellent. Thumbs up to Dombrowski for Iglesias, and for Cespedes, and for Gose. So far, excellent additions all.
We did not give the bullpen too much opportunity to screw the game up.
They are hitting, pitching, fielding and running and doing it all well.
But now comes the test. In Cleveland for three games. Now we will see what we have on the field.
and by the way, a shout out to the Red Wings! Congrats, guys. 24 years of playoffs! Absolutely, astoundingly, amazing!!!!!
the lovely Katie is cheering LGRW!!!! somewhere.

shane greene is now 2-0, has yet to allow an earned run in 16 innings. He came to us in the three team deal this winter that sent Didi Gregorious to the yankees and Robbie Ray to the Diamondbacks. Robbie Ray was one of the guys we got for Doug Fister (the others were Ian Krol and Steve Lombardozzi). So, for those who want to criticize Dombrowski for the Fister trade, just look at what has come of that so far. Sometimes a trade takes a little time to all work out........and right now, and admittedly, it might not last for the entire season, but right now, Shane Greene looks like the real deal and makes me want to say, Dombrowski has done it again!!!!
Tigers v. Pirates tonight with a chance to go 8-1.

Well, they got the crap beat outta them today. At least it was against the top pitcher in the league. Still, 9-2 for the first 11 games is nothing to sneer at.

11-2 record with the Royals right behind us at 10-3. The Mets, in the National League, are also 10-3.

Got beat by the Yankees pretty badly tonight. I'm sure the cold and rain didn't help much. 11-3 record so far. We are now tied with Kansas City and the Mets for the best record in the league.

the weather may have had a role in our lack of clutch hitting, VBG, but let's give credit to Evoldi from the Yankees. The kid pitched brillantly.
For us, Lobstein pitched well also........but, as usual when the name on the uniform is not Soria, the bullpen failed again. It's hard to complain with an 11-3 record, but the downfall of this team will continue to be the bullpen. Krol comes in and first thing he does is give up two homeruns???? Seriously??? Back to Toledo for you, better yet, back to Washington for you.
I continue to shake my head over the Fister trade. We got Krol in that deal, also Robbie Ray (now gone) and also Steve Lombardozzi (who lasted maybe three days with us).
Price goes tonight. Let's get the hitting shoes on, boys, cause these 1-0 games are giving me grey hair........

I agree that both starting pitchers pitched great games. I wasn't saying that Eovaldi didn't. I also agree that our bullpen needs help, badly. I was just saying that the weather MIGHT have had something to do with the lack of production from our offense.

respectfully, VBG, the weather did not bother the yankee bats when the bullpen got involved........just sayin'.
here is another PLUs for Tiger fans; Jose Iglesias play at short, coupled with Kinsler at second, and either Davis or Gose in center has made the pitching staff more comfortable with pitching to contact. Up the middle is death valley for opposing teams this year.

The bullpen got a boost today. Joe Nathan is out for the season with a torn ligament, needing Tommy John surgery.

So Nathan opts for the surgery ......... Just a formality so he
can steal the rest of the money on the contract that Dombrowski
should've never offered ....... NO CLASS NATHAN !!!!! RETIRE !

nice comeback in the series with the Royals.......after getting beat up in the first two games, the Tigers bounce back with 2 gutsy pitching performances to split the weekend series and end up where they started.......in first place in the division........
love watching cespedes and iglesias in the field........they have that little extra bit of flash that make them fun to watch.........iglesias is day to day with a groin strain.......
Soria looks like $$$$$$$ so far........

i had the "privilege" of listening to Yankee announcers last night and they noted that when Jeter got his 3000th hit, the Rays came out of the dugout to pay him homage, but last night when A Roid got his 3000th hit, the Tigers dugout stayed in the dugout and no one came out on the field for the "celebration. The Yankee announcers were incredulous that the Tigers showed A Roid no respect.
Unbelievably, later in the broadcast, Yankee butt kisser Paul O'Neill commented that of the former yankees who are in the 3000 hit club, A Roid has much in common with Dave Winfield since both of them lost almost a year late in their careers due to "injury". Yeah, Paul, A Roid's PED suspension was an "injury". Un-Freakin'-beleivable!!!!!!
