Depends on what your goal is with working out and the results you're getting.
As far as substitutions for carbs, look up fibrous vegetables. Lots of choices there.

Depends on how active your everyday lifestyle is and depends on how crappily you eat on a regular basis.
I aim for 1/2 my meal to be veggies. Then meats. Then carbs. Usually fall under a 30% protein 20% fat and 50% carbs. It may sound easy but there's fat hiding in most things with carbs. I've found that by eating closer to the source, unprocessed grains, I have eliminated a lot of the fat and retained most of the protein qualities of the grains I eat. Carbs aren't all bad. It's what they're mixed with.

you might want to consult some diabetic cook books, for low carb meals that are easy to prepare.

You do realize ere are a lot of carbs in fruits and veggies too. And sugar. Sugar is a bigger no no carb than a protein carb.
So a banana is actually worse carb/sugar wise than a serving of steel cut oats carb/protein wise
Empty carbs are always bad. Think like white bread and white rice.
Let's compare one banana - 27ish grams of carbs 2-3 grams of fiber; 14 grams of sugars; 1 gram of protein
Let's compare one slice of Sara Lee 12 grain bread - 19 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fiber; 4 grams of sugar; 5 grams of protein
You'd be better off eating the slice of bread.

I was reading about one's metabolic type. Have you heard of this? It talks about balancing your diet to how your body metabolizes food. If you eat grapes or such- try balancing it out with a protein?? thoughts?
thoughts anybody, really.
