21stcent South Prairie, WA 65, joined Nov. 2007	I've done backyard front end alignment, and yes wheels on ground to measure. Might have to move it to get wheels to sit flat.Jack it up to get room to work, jack stands (of course!) make your adjustments, jack it up, remove stands. If the wheels aren't sitting flat, move again. Repeat until you get it where you want. What I used to measure was a small diameter pipe with a rod in it. A piece of tape on the rod was marked and used to check. Still sits in a corner even though I have not needed it in 20 years. Another thing is at least on front ends, the front wheels are not parallel. There is a certain amount of toe in needed. Rears I imagine are parallel. This is up for debate as I really haven't done this often and many years ago.

Not sure what year BMW you have but a lot need the steering angle sensor reset after alignments/adjustments to get the car in 'perfect' alignment.
