I'm sticking with "petting zoo".
If you find that there's no 'chemistry' between the two of you, it's a quick meet, feed the cute babies and shake hands goodbye.

Yes!

Now, no long first meets and no late night at the bar meets, definitely a no-no.

Half the time, they don't look anything like their 10 year old pic. In fact one time the guy I met was half bald but his profile pics all showed hair and all his teeth.

False advertising. happens all the time, both sexes do it!

Simple lunch date usually works. At least you get some decent food. Can see how he interacts with public and desicion make. If he is a take charge type guy. Manners and respect level. I try to make her smile and relax.

Lunch could be committing to much time for some losers.

I look at the first meet as the scratch and sniff test. Either I like him or I don't

We've already texted, and hopefully graduated to talking on the phone. So now it's time to find out if I'm physically attracted to him in person. Doesn't take too long to figure that out. It's a meet, not a date.

Of course I've talked with him. The problem is, sometimes the creepy, scary perv lurking inside him doesn't come out until the person to person meet. Pair all that with the possibility that he's a lying bastard that doesn't post up to date pics, well, then lunch is definitely out!

Well op two pages and so far the only real thing listed was a petting zoo.

See....women are only after sex, of course here they restricted it to just "petting" on the first date...but I consider foreplay still as sex.

....

But, I've got either type of petting zoo covered, an old dog, 3 miniature horses, a groundhog lurking about, some deer that visit sometimes and a rabbit or two.

you just have to catch them.

I'd prefer almost anything other than a sit down meal on a first date.

It sets a precedent that a date is all about eating.

If I've accepted a date with him, it means I've already gotten to know him well enough to do something other than just sit and talk. It's time to get down to the serious business of having some fun!

Some of my favorite first dates have been:

Concerts
Parties
Street Festival
Sporting Events
Fishing
Games (bowling, pool, tennis)

Oops! I forgot dancing.

I prefer something simple like a coffee shop. If everything works out fine, we can expand the date to something more. If not, it's a handshake and a goodbye.

I once met a lady at Panara Bread for coffee. She sat down and the very first words out of her mouth was..." You know, I'm high maintenance and I'm looking for someone to take care of me". I responded, "Let me know how that works out for you." And I left!

First meet & greet & first date aren't always the same. One could have a first date with someone they haven't met online.

First meet & greet: It can just be for coffee. It would be a great meet if he looked enough like his photos, not too different. Also if we were both able to talk with each other easily, maybe some laughter too. Both of us ending the meet with us wanting to see each other again.

First date: Well I'd know what he looks like. The date can also be just for coffee & conversation for first date, or breakfast, lunch, dinner, a picnic, a walk at the park, etc. Again, if we have a good connection & able to talk with each other easily & also both want a second date, that would be great.

I know for a fact a woman will make up her mind if she will at least sleep with you in the first minute of the coffee date. Then the coffee date is to see if she will change her mind hearing you out. That is why the coffee date needs to be as short as possible.

As she is sitting down, she has already decided. No need for more time if she won't sleep with you ever and why take more time talking her out of it if she decided to sleep with at some future date.

That actually floors me. I never figured you for a Fort Worth type.

I went to high school in NE Dallas and lived over there into my mid-20s, and I always preferred Fort Worth. Guess I just didn't fit in well on the Dallas side.

I'm sure those sugar babies and arrangement types need to make quick decisions but you cannot judge all women by their standards.

Really. A man your age should have some wisdom by now.

Agreed. If there is one thing I've learned is that every woman is not the same. There are only two things I can say are applicable to most women.

1) What they say they want and what they respond to are two different things.
2) "No" does not mean no forever. Just because they aren't interested right now does not mean they won't be 2 weeks, months, etc. from now.

I love Ft Worth. When anybody is visited Dallas, that's where I like to take them. It's more like Texas than Dallas and seems like there's more to do, just walking the streets and showing them the architecture of the old buildings, oh, and Bass Hall.

Taste of Dallas, yeah. Mesquite just had a Real. Texas. Festival, oh, and Shakespeare in the Park, Summer at the Arboretum.

I think all of those make a great first date. Sort of a 'you get the tickets, and I buy (or bring) the food' thing.

Love, LOVE Bass Hall. I really like most of downtown. And West 7th. Lots of patios. Just wish 8.0 was still there ... or at least that the Flying Saucer would have live music. They have a great setting for it.

When was the last time you were over there? The Flying Saucer moved. They tore down that building and several others and completely redid that block. It's a lot nicer ~ there are a bunch of new places now and a big square with fountains, patios, etc. But yeah, I remember sitting up on the roof there a few times.

They bought 8.0 and shut it down and moved across the street. It's been a while now ... can't remember when. I don't think I've been inside the place since the change, so I don't know about the bar. I always sit outside.

While it's sad sometimes to see old buildings go, they really have done a nice job with that area north of where the building sat. That whole block, actually.

Curious, Danny, but have you taken first dates there, downtown Ft Worth, I mean? If not, why not?

Fort Worth is my go-to place for dates. I'm only about 15 minutes away. Trinity Park just west of downtown is good, too. Lots of great bike trails along the banks. Picnic areas. And Panther Island Pavilion has live music all the time.

Grapevine is good, too. Lots of stuff going on up there on weekends.
