Depends how much corn you eat. Everything has limits. Its counted as a starch. Bananas also are limited and in the same group because of the sugar. Usually half of a banana is a serving. Learn your food groups and serving sizes. Choose smaller sized fresh fruit and avoid canned products.Almost all vegetables are good choices. Avocados also count as a fat exchange. Don't worry about fad diets and bad choices as much as serving size and value.

Grapefruit can be good for the diet but will interfere with some meds. I lost my weight by relying on mainly apples that were on the tart side-low sugar content, and riding a bike about 20 miles a night. Have heard lots bad about corn also, and there must be something to the fact that much livestock is "fattened" on it before sale.

Grapefruit interactions are noted on the drug information labels. With some certain medications they can cause the blood pressure to go even lower than intended. FYI 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables are recommended. Apples are full of fiber and sugar, used in recipes to sweeten. Choose a small sized apple when glucose needs a pick me up but do not load up on them. The only way to lose weight is to use more calories than you take in. Exercise daily to boost the metabolism. Drink lots of water to pass out more sugar in the urine so it is not reabsorbed twice.

Eating an apple a few minutes before going grocery shopping will allow you to pass the junk food a lot easier

Eating anything will do that. Just be sure its counted in daily intake. I like water and lemon when I shop. Men have the ability to burn calories much faster than women. After a certain age we no longer produce hormones and we can never match yours.

Actually the newest release suggests 9 servings of fruits and veggies per day
2 cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of veggies is roughly what it translates to.

Find vegetables that are high in protein. They are generally lower in calorie than meats and grains, and have more nutrient content. The body will take a little longer to digest these so you'll feel full longer.
Here is a good article with info charts. http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/vegetables-high-in-protein.php
Same goes for fiber. More fiber content means it digests slower. Also. Like a diabetic would count. Subtract the grams of fiber from grams of carbs to get 'true' carb count of a food.
Here is a good article about high fiber foods. http://greatist.com/health/surprising-high-fiber-foods

Never counted a calorie and went from well over 220 to an even 160 lbs! Since hitting the gym and protein, the extra muscle has me 180-185. Man-Woman whatever it is all about determination. At 60 I determined not to be a fat lazy old man!

That wouldn't work for me as I have to watch cholesterol intake but I heard hi protein is the diet staple in the Atkins diet. My diabetic diet doesn't promote all of one thing but I am willing to try the hi pro veggies. I use a lot of Kale and collards cooked in low sodium broth. Heart healthy snacks also. I lift weights daily and like the protein idea so I buy Advance replacement bars.

The Atkins diet calls for cutting out all breads and grains and carbs. But you can eat all the fatty red meat you want.
Eating nutrient dense food is a no brainer. There's no special diet name for it. Why would you eat a filler that costa you calories but delivers little to no nutritional value. Like iceberg lettuce. Why not at least eat romaine, or spinach, or kale instead. Not only do they provide essential nutrients, they're higher in fiber and protein, this taking longer to digest and keeping you fuller longer.
Honestly just eating 'high protein veggies' isn't going to get you anywhere near a 'high protein diet'. It's just providing your body essential nutrients as well as keeping it feeling fuller longer.

You do know how much fat and carbs are in those Advance bars, don't you? There are plenty of other high protein options that don't have any fat all and small amounts of carbs.

Your body digests them faster because they're already broken down. You'll stay fully longer by eating fruits and veggies straight from the source.
I know a lot of people are pro-smoothies. I've always been anti-smoothie.
Not only that but it's mental. A huge bowl if leafy spinach mentally makes you think you've eaten more than a condensed and puréed 6oz glass of spinach smoothie

My friend just opened a juice bar in the back of her fruit stand. Its a nice combo of fast a slow carbs and really is a filling drink. I myself am happier at 805 saint and 205 sinner. I need a quick pick up after the gym and this seems to work for now but I still like my granola bars.

Protein Zone banana chocolate-Naked is my favorite gym drink...49% Potassium and 60% Protein daily values make it my choice for a before-during-after drink. Freeze mine and take a little at a time as it defrost during workouts. My workouts can be over 3 hours including the stretch so need some energy to ride my bicycle home afterwords.

You'd be better off with something protein based post-workout. Carbs and sugars aren't doing any repairing of your muscles.

Thanks. I rarely have much after working out. My cravings start around 5pm. I don't eat much fish or meat. I like protein fortified whole grain cereals and I do eat beans and kale. I try to buy gluten and sugar free foods including yogurt and I drink briggs acv with honey. I really dont see a problem with a little granola. As long as not inducing insulin spikes all is well.

You're not getting all your amino acids if you don't eat meat or take full complex protein supplements.
Look at how many grams of carbs you're consuming with the means and oatmeal and fruit smoothies. WAY out of balance.

I count my carbs. I get 650 daily and 40 gm of fat. I get pleanty of protien with tofu, eggs cheese and nuts and dairy. This is a general geriatric diet. I limit sugars the best I can and do not use sweeteners. My fats are diet margerine, coconut oil or paenut butter, I eat whole grain and sprouted breads and drink plenty of water. Majority of elderly people prefer to stay away from meats and animal fats.

You're consuming 650 grams of carbs daily!?
When I was training I was on a 2500 calorie a day plan and even then my carbs never ever exceeded 500 grams on a carb loading day before a race.
I don't mean to argue with you, but is this seriously what your doctor is recommending!? Yowzers!!!

Yes, this is the diet given to me in rehab when I was in recovery. I had a one on one at a clinical appointment. I'm going to call her right away. I just had labs drawn and pulmonary function tests. Maybe you know better than they

Ment to say 65% of diet in carbs. I tried reducing to 120 and that was not satisfying.

Oh my. 65% is a HUGE difference from 650 grams. Wow! Ha I was going to ask 'how do you consume that much!?' I struggled to eat 500 grams when I was training - I always felt over full.
I usually try to stick to 40-50% carbs. My fat is higher than I like. But if I can ideally do 30-40% protein and limit fat to 20%.

Wide range of info .thanks everyone for your input. What's your opinions on the naked juices? I drink a lot of them.
I like to make my own juice (I use a centrifugal juicer) apples, celery, bok cho stalk/greens, carrots,
cucumber, zukinni, greens, cabbage, kale, just cut in strips and push in the juicer and see what you get.
( not into the turnips, rutabaga, parsnip, asparagus, juice. )
Or a combo
Like a mix of: mostly carrot, a beet, plenty red chard stalks and greens,
1 clove of garlic a dab of union, a bit of Parcalley and/or Cilantro = the Vampire Drink ( El Vampiro )
* A juicer, good investment.
Fresh Parcalley and Cilantro, supper GOOD every day STUFF !!
I like 'naked' juice, its a little pricier, So I'v been buying the 'Bolthouse Farms' its similar to naked.
Naked or Bolthouse, the berry combo mix drinks are great, all blue colored barres
good for eye site, berries have antioxidants.
Drinking some Bolthouse, 100% carrot right now....

I like a rainbow of colored veggies each day, each color has some significants in vitamins.
Look at all the colors in the food pyramid I posted
Carrot = A
Bell Peppers, red, yellow, orange = C
Hot Peppers = C
Oranges, lime, lemon, grapefruits = C
Etc.
