Maybe this doesn't seem to have anything to do with dating, but it seems like the issue of asking a person about what he/she does for a living comes up again and again.

Some people are put off by it, some like to talk about their work.

So, do you like what you do? Love it? Just see it as a job? Kind of hate it?

And, does that affect how you feel about being asked about it?

I like the life it has provided for myself and my family. As for liking or disliking it, I try my best to ignore that. To some it provides a gift and to some it provides a curse.

I'd like it more if the industry was stable. If I was 10-15 years younger, I'd try to start a new career.

You know the job I loved the most paid the least. So I quit for more money. Sucks doesnt it. If I were younger I'd change to but cant now. Have to think about retirement.

Could be worse, though. Retirement is a pipe dream for more people every day.

Watching business people rushing to their jobs ever morning makes you wonder what's it's like to be them. Amazingly you point out all of the good stuff about working that position. Based on untrue ideas or even if it's factual information its more to it than just numbers and he say she say. Hard work, challenging, interesting, good, bad, fulfilling, unfinished business, passionate, helpful, loving, lazy, overwhelming, careless, inspired but not necessarily the right fit, just here for money until the first check. Checking off earning a check on my life list. When asked about work my response is I remember having a job once

I have been retired now for almost 12 years, in part, mostly because of a progressive disability, but also because sticking to a chosen career made it possible to be able to retire.

I was a city driver-dockman for a number of trucking companies in the Cleveland area, all union (Teamsters)for over 30 years. A love - dislike relationship? The first ten - twelve years were much more enjoyable than the later years, there just wasn't usually the same level of micro managing involved.

I had been looking forward to trying something different, but again disability ended that thought, and there were a lot of restrictions placed on Teamster retirees choices for future employment.

In my later working years I came to view it as to what it had become, a means to an end. Talking about it has no affect on me at all, I probably wouldn't recommend it now as a career. Judging by the seemingly now constant driver shortages a lot of other former drivers with working age kids probably don't either?

I love my career don't c it as a job, policy is I can't talked about but I can say I work for a school system dealing with 2500 high school students everyday. Wouldn't have it any other way. I'm going to miss them when I retire in 2017.

I think in terms of dating Lilod it was really important that they love what they do and their jobs. I really didn't care what it was..but from all of us that have lived with/dated someone that was miserable with their work/job that hating what they do/job would run into other aspects of their lives and mine if I was involved with them....that's a hard person to be around.

This.

If you've ever dated someone who wasn't happy with what they did for a living, you'd understand the need to ask this question well before you find out what is their favorite color.

It's definitely a deal breaker.

I agree with that, Rose. Not only does the unhappiness spill over, but it tells you a lot about a person if they opt to stay in a miserable situation for longer than is necessary.

How can a question not be genuine? It's a question, not a claim to anything. I asked, I wanted to know the answers...seems pretty simple.

I love my job, for the most part. I could live without the politics.

What I do every day is part of who I am, and I don't mind talking about it to an extent.

I don't like to take too much of my work home, however - so if I've had a bad day at the office ~ I may vent a little - but then move on. I don't want to wallow in it.

There are parts of my job that I enjoy very much. Treatment programs with the inmates. Seeing when they get the concepts and start to change their thinking . I don't even mind the redundant paperwork so much. I hate the micro managing and politics that are involved. It's not the inmates that make my job hard!
