Why are cars going that many miles these days? The big changes are electronic control and fuel injection. Less gas blowing past the rings and thinning the oil? Improved manufacturing in the form of tighter tolerances?

Reason I'm wondering is I bought a 93 Ford Tempo 2.3L 3 spd automatic 250,000 miles. Head was replaced and no idea on the bottom end. It runs good. No knocks. Trans is good.
It amazes me that this car is still on the road. Former rental, maybe a flood car ( lot of rust inside) interior carpet replaced. Why did I buy it? It ran so good!

one reason I think cars are lasting so long these days, are the lubricants, motor oil, gear oil, grease, ect. lubricants are 1000% better than they were 50 yrs ago.

I sold my last car with 200 K on it. Didn't use oil between the 3 K oil changes either. However, the front end was worn out, and the body starting to rot. A/C blew cold air, and the transmission shifted perfectly.
But being on call with my job, I didn't want to take a chance and push my luck any further. My cheapness had to be pushed aside, and logic took over.
So I am on to repeating this very same scenario. I currently have 150 K on my latest ride, and will more than likely dump it at that same magical 200 K milestone as well.
Or wait until it really does finally die..........

My current vehicle, I hope to get to 200 K. My last dealership buying experience was absolutely awful. Not something I am looking forward to any time soon. Perhaps in another 3 - 4 years or so.
Now being armed with a lot more information, car prices, what have you, my next shot had better go better. Or else I will drive my wreck right off their lot. I ain't putting up with more bs and sales tactics like I received the last time I bought a ride.
I am one to prefer the base model vehicles. I don't want or care for all the bells and whistles that most dealerships pre order and stock on their lots. My last car had only 3 options. The XM radio upgrade, floor mats, and shinny wheels. The wheels were the stock size I might add. I know full well going in how much extra a set of tires will cost with the bigger sized wheels.
Just try and find a vehicle with little or no options at a new car dealer. If you do, odds are said vehicle had a birthday sitting on that lot............
