i'm dying...

that is a 2 foot tall upside down flowerpot that had a chunk broken out of it...
i turned it over and it was a foot below the water suface so the small goldfish would have a place to hide...
i have spent most of today and part of yesterday working at unburying it and this is as far as i can make it today...

i flipped the bridge out of the way which is what the steel beams are...
the only thing that holds the whole bridge together is 8 sheetrock screws! huh?

i've been able to keep the heron from getting some of them!
plus they are still alive in this mess...

it's beer 30 and pass out on the couch 30 too...
pass the aspirin...

Nice

But here's a helpful hint

A landowners best friend, most important and useful tool
Is a tractor!

Get one with a loader,PTO and 3 point hitch.
Attachments can be had fairly reasonable.

I dug a 1/3 acre pond 8 ft deep with a double bit plow on the back of a 40 horse compact.no physical labor involved.
$25 in diesel fuel.

Then you have something to brush hog with.plow with.pull stuff with.the list is endless

And beats the hell outta breaking your back, sweating your a** off labor

those of us with less land, I've got a strong tiller . 8 inches deep a pass, throw it in the wheelbarrow, repeat,,
Or, just wait until you have to rent one for a job and get it on the weekend. that's definitely the preferred method

I hand dug a 20 foot circumference by 3 feet deep pond in 2 weeks. The only difficulty I ran into was an old fossilized tree stump at the lowest level of the dig.

Didn't cart off the dirt. Built a berm on the low side and seeded in poppies.

It came out lovely, if I do say so myself.

this is what the one half looks like right now...
it's as far as my back will allow me to go...
the brick wall at the far end is 22' away from the drain pipe in the lower corner...
it is about 8' wide at the narrowest...
and it is right at 36"s deep when full...
the water in it is from the rain we are starting to get - if my vinyl gutters had not warped all to hell in our heat years ago, i would have it filled from my roof and the rain we've gotten so far...

thanks...
lots of long hard work...
but worth it in the end...
wish i could have done it in a few days instead of taking months...

we are getting the rain we have desperately needed for years now too!!!
i have 30 or so fruit trees to prune next...

along with pulling up the drip lines in the garden so i can eventually till it and start getting stuff planted...

peas for instance could get planted here in a few short weeks...

That's lookin good gothy!
Even though we're having a mild winter here in the Ozarks,
There's not much getting done outdoors around here except keeping the woodburner supplied with wood.

My 150 gallon fishtank works well for humidity

I can never remember to add water to the steamer
