My new blank back yard is full of B Walnut trees, and from what I understand contamination is a real problem. activated charcoal, raised beds, any other info would be appreciated. I wonder about burning off the top area twice? also the bleed through with a raised bed of the walnut poison.

Google can be your friend but books at library on black walnuts are a must read before you plant anything.

Black walnutd contaminate the soil for years and years even after removing trees and roots.

Research it. Black walnut will kill anything you plant near it.

Good luck.

You had better hope that dough was kneaded well to get all the air bubbles out.

Why not just do a pot garden?

The deck roof would not beat the weight unless some major reinforcement was installed.

Going to do pots, and raised bed or two,, The herb garden will incorporate a rock garden with a liner
I'm getting ready to start jacking up a 1902 hotel, complete with spiers and all that good stuff, so if I do a rooftop garden it will be a Solar powered Sun tracking,, probably full of rainbow sage, which feeds to the wholesale patiouse(eclaires)biz,, depends what I dream up. actually I'm doing an extension on the garage and putting a green house at the end of that. Year round,, because I Eat year round

I have a tourchdown roof that I painted reflective white and the plants grow twice as fast up there from the reflected sunlight...it was a gravel roof before so no problem with the extra weight.

No more thinking sticks for me!
I think I'm just going to extend the greenhouse , possibly include a solar heated jacuzzi. something in the ground with the rock work in the greenhouse it would fit right in, most every structure has unused floor space I'm just going to fill mine with water!
Jacuzzi in the middle of the garden you gotta admit that does sound kind of cool

I understood the organic difference at about 9 years old. And I ate a bunch of that squash I planted for many many moons. I've always been organic, if I was able to have a garden it was organic.
I'm too lazy and cheap to use chemicals

Koz... I was wondering what kinds of organic materials you used when gardening.

We always made our own compost, used cow manure after the heat burned off, oatmeal, Tums/Rolaids/Equate antacid, mustard powder, Dawn dish liquid, and the like.

I've always used good soil, find a place with a foot of loom and relocate it if needed, but, ,if you have that kind of great soil there,,probably a good place to put a plant or two,,
Multi year, till in the compost pile in fall,,

I always turned all refuge from the garden back into the soil and allowed a natural composting to regenerate the earth.

I buy all heirloom seeds

A-because they were invented by nature and not guys in lab coats

B-the seeds will grow again every year if you take the time to collect and store them over the winter

When I was in Iowa years ago
I never bought seed of any kind after the first couple years
And all my veggies and flowers came back better than the originals

Cukes are not doing so well, but have already picked 2 cauliflower and a cabbage. Salad makings are really bountiful.

Hope you are having a bountiful harvest.
