aging that was an intereting comment. Made me look this up.

Thomas Lawson McCall (March 22, 1913 – January 8, 1983) was an American politician and journalist in the state of Oregon. A Republican, he was the 30th governor of the state, in office from 1967 to 1975. A native of Massachusetts, he would grow up there and in Central Oregon before attending the University of Oregon. After college he worked as a journalist including time at Portland's The Oregonian during World War II.

Later he would work in radio and then in television as a newscaster and political commentator. He made an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 1954, losing in the general election to Edith Green. While working for TV station KGW, he produced a documentary on pollution in Oregon, which helped to spur environmental clean up of the air and the Willamette River. In 1964, McCall won his first political office, Oregon Secretary of State, followed by two terms as Governor of Oregon. As governor he worked towards environmental clean up, the Oregon Bottle Bill, and public ownership of beaches on the Oregon Coast among others. Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland is one of several items named in his honor.

Absolutely correct! I was trying to remember this morning whether I had met him when he was with KGW ---- I was with the AP at that time ---- so had to do some quick research to refresh my recollection. Lo, and behold, even McCall was an out-of-stater!

Oregon among top 10 states with best business tax climates

Oregon and California share a border, but the neighboring states are miles apart when it comes to business taxes.

Oregon again ranked ninth in the nation in the Tax Foundation’s 2009 State Business Tax Climate Index. California inched past New Jersey and New York for 48th place.

The rankings are for the 2009 fiscal year that began July 1.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan Tax Foundation, which is based in Washington, D.C., has been examining government fiscal policies since 1937. For the past six fiscal years, the group has published an annual index ranking states based on the taxes that matter most to business: corporate tax, individual income tax, sales tax, unemployment tax and property tax.

Oregon consistently has made the top 10 — largely because the state charges no sales tax.

“It is obvious that the absence of a major tax is a dominant factory in vaulting (those) 10 states to the top of the rankings, wrote Joshua Barro, a foundation staff economist and author of the index.

Wyoming, Nevada and South Dakota have no corporate or individual income tax. Alaska has no individual income tax or state-level sales tax. Florida and Texas have no individual income tax; and New Hampshire, Delaware, Oregon and Montana have no sales tax.

Do I see a trend here? move to Oregon and Montana on the west side, and NH and Delware on the east side.

Screw what other people say, Im from Cali too, and if someone is going to hold your previous geographic location against you, I say F*#K em'.. And incase I need to specify what I mean by that since there are perverts on here, I mean forget them..pay them no mind. Because people that are that close minded should live in places where you're not allowed to make your own decisions.

I'm a native Idahoan, and I have a problem with the "I'm here and the rest of y'all keep out" attitude I'm seeing. It's ridiculous.

What on earth makes someone a scumbag just because they live across a little black line that someone drew on a map?

I've met lots of Oregonians and Idahoans and Californians that I'm proud to call my friends, and I've met some from each place who are not people I'd choose to pursue a friendship with. Point is, there's an a**hole in every crowd, and since we get to pick who our friends are going to be, we don't have to limit ourselves to the locals just because they're locals.

Only one who REALLY has an issue, gets off by causing issues here. You know the type!!
Yup, always one in a crowd! I'm getting use to it but still leaves bad taste when seeing the harm of rudeness and lack of respect towards others.
Funny thing is that they say they be "attached" but choose a "Dating Site" to rant and rave on. You'd think they'd have more fun ranting and raving on the "rant & rave" forum on Craigs List!! Or.... Maybe this is there morning warm up place!
Wish I could say He/She/It but even the Adams apple makes a hard determination and no one will claim to have ever met them... or wanted too!!!!!
