I think "Carpe Diem" used in the romantic literary sense is meant as a way to say "Don't put off til tomorrow, what you can do today, right now, this minute.". The most common anti-Carpe Deim saying is "When I get around to it...". This is mostly due to fatigue generated from a bust a** job. It is GOOD to sieze the day sometimes, but one must also inject common sense into that equation, else the bank will sieze everything else.

LilMiss.....yours are some of my favorite posts.
.....and I can very easily see how that interpretation of Carpe Diem could apply to an insightful and gentle soul such as yourself.
I don't know that the rocket-paced, "gotta have it", me me me world out there places the same emphasis on simple pleasures, though.....
...and it gets down-right disturbing should you take everything to it's natural conclusion in terms of dating.

Arkansas it is all about balance and making the best out of life. How are you ever going to find your true love here when you make yourself out to be such a doom and gloom guy? Lol

hmmmm...
my "D", changed me, so i guess, after evolving my life to x wants...
i have seriously changed, i absolutely live to do the things i had put off, before I got "M",
i think i do not help others as much as i used to, cause i am at school so much, and my summers are school and preparation for my vacation...
i do think i help some, but yes i do believe i have become more selfish of my wants and needs,
when before i always thought of others first.
maybe it is not so good. but that is where i am at right now...
going to climb that mountain, just to know i can, in stead of dreaming about doing it all these years.

Alright now that we got that cleared up, you could apply that concept in many ways. I think personally, I would say seize the day means not to be afraid to take a chance. To set aside my fears and pride, and seek what I desire.

Yeah I've noticed that too. I see 'Life is short!' in a lot of women's profiles. I never know what that is supposed to mean exactly. I tend to think that's their biological clock talking more than anything else.
i have that written in my profile it has nothing to do with my biological clock my son was 30 years old and his wife was 32 and 5 months pregnant when a year ago they were killed insantly in a head on collision.to me that was the moment when i knew for sure how short life can be i always knew it though, my dad died at 36,but when you loose a child its different so i knew i needed to and wanted to start living my life my way and enjoying every minute of it, because you never know what may happen...

I tell ya akman, I understand what you're saying and it does seem so cliche and just following the cool pack it seems.
But then anyone who has lost anyone unexpectedly knows what seize the moment, harvest the moment, live like theres no tomorrow really means.
What comes to my mind is an explosion, a resulting fire, a 37 year old man in the trama center, in wrap with body gases forming even while alife, the doctor coming in -its time to meet with the ethics committing--to agree to pull the plug--while in the meeting the doctor comes in--he's gone. He loved us enough to not make us have to make that decision.
I had been in a very bad accident a month before the loss of this wonderful creative imaginative person. The car mangled, the only person could have survived was the driver which happened to be me. I did have some serious problems from the accident, BUT Then this incredible person passing so horribly made me do the whole wondering of WHY, WHY did I live and such a tremendous person die. WHY ME?
It took me along time, thinking God had some great plan for me--not so I now believe. But rather believe its more in the way I touch anothers life.
I now believe if I can show a little happy to a sad person, a little kind to a mean person, or just add a little motivation to an already great person, then maybe I have added a little good in the world.
Just feeding a hungry person, can bring a smile as bright as that of a thousand angels.
To live completely for the moment, to truly harvest that moment, one needs to realize that a harvest is to be shared in so many ways. If I didn't share the harvested moments of my life, I feel as though I would explode. To share my happines, my bounty, my life is what I live for in so many ways.
But then I have been called a dreamer.

Well, if you don't live your life for yourself, the way you want to live it, who's going to live it for you? And who are you going to live it for?
