The pin count is what the motherboard will accept.
To find out which memory RAM will work best in your system the following is needed.

The model number of the motherboard or
The manufacture's name & model number of the computer along with the service tag number if applicable. (like on most Dell computers)

if its a manufactured computer (dell, hp, compaq, etc)...go to crucial.com and use thier drilldown by make and model. it will tell you type/configuration/max amount. if its a custom go to the motherboard makers website and look up the specs on that board.
168 is the SDRAM, 184 is DDR and 240 pin is DDR2...these are your desktop counts, laptops are different

As long as you're opening it up you can try and view the info on the RAM and write it down then google for a match, even better to remove the stick/card and take it with you to your local source of computer parts.

if you are going to remove and take with you make sure to put in an electrostatic bag so as not to damage it...much safer to look for motherboard model and look up the specs and write/print it and take with you. also, looking up the specs will let you know your max so you do not put a 2GB stick in a slot that maxes at 1GB.

a newer puter will be a 240 pin and for maybe 5 years previous will be 184, if you buy the wrong module it wont fit anyways, but you are best to pull out a stick and write down what it is and then get the same speed module to add , you will have to look and see how many slots you have left open for adding ram anyways, you could have 4 sticks of 256 in there now and will be adding all new ram then , look on the side of the mother board for a mfg like ASUS, GIGABITE etc then a model number like P5NE-sli then just go to the ASUS site or what ever you got and do a search for your board model number and you will find out all you need to know

sure it is but is it pc2700, or maybe its pc3200, alot of mother board manufactureres recommend ram known to work well in the products, but yeah just run out and buy some 184 pin as it will probably work anyways

The crucial.com website will show you your current RAM configuaration, along with your upgrage capability. It is the same site I referenced when I tried to help you a few weeks ago. Even if your PC manufacturer is "unknown" or a home build, that website will still give you the correct RAM ordering specs. As an aside, PC2700 and PC3200 are compatible, although if you add 2700 to existing 3200 all RAM sticks become "backwards compatible" at 2700.

This is taken right from the MSI website about the motherboard that you listed. 184pin

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=246&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=

Notice that it says that it supports dual chanel memory.
That means it is best that you use 2 identical sticks of ram. Meaning same manufacture and same model number and P/N. Actually the rams that work best are the ones that are speced for dual chanel and only sold in pairs.

• Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 2.5V DDR SDRAM.
• Supports up to 2GB memory size without ECC.
• Supports dual channel DDR333/400MHz.

Here are some examples. notice how it says dual chanel kit.
1GB kit

After the rebate this one is hard to beat.

Hmm.. did you remove the memory you previously had installed? I find it odd you can,t fit a pair of ddr sticks into your system.

Reason one for asking ddr will only run as fast as the slowest stick on board. Example

slot #1 ddr pc 2600 166 Mhz x 2 "when correctly paired" 333 Mhz
slot #2 ddr pc 3200 200 Mhz x 2 "when correctly paired" 400 Mhz

The example will only run at the weakest link setting that being 333 Mhz so if you purchased a 2 gb kit of pc 3200 2 x 1gb sticks then remove and replace the old memory as that will only slow you down and create a bottleneck..

That would be correct. Hey, is the Kanesville Queen riverboat casino still operating out of Council Bluffs?

If it's the Kanesville Queen (at a dock with a hotel right next to it), I did all the computer stuff on it.
