One Blond to another, I am also a Calif transplant but have been here sice 61, so let me help you out a little. I believe a 4x4 is a pickup truck and lock & load them, I'm not quite sure, but believe it to be locking in the hubs to the 4 wheel drive on that 4x4. Don't let these guys fool you to much. Hey I'd come over for the Hot toddy's but let's skip the snow ball fight and go find some sun & men with tans!!! LOL

Thank you for another attempt to translate what on earth these things are. Much too foreign to me. And I truly know they are all picking on me. However, sorry ... I honestly do not even know how to turn on the headlights in my car ---- they come on automatically ---- so I've never bothered figuring out where the switch is. Did find the windshield wiper thing though. Mind you ... at this point, my car is so buried with snow, I wouldn't know where the doors are.
Anyone ready to go watch the surfers at Salt Creek???

Hi again, I am in Tigard so we must be pretty close by each other. I'd guess I have about 7 or 8" of snow here. Sunshine and tan lines anytime for me over snow.

Send it this way...We missed out..I see by looking at trip check cams..You all havin a SERIOUS winter wonderland up there.. Just my cup of tea.... My transaxle need more flow of fluids...lol
Got to make it work..work it baby work it,,work it!!! Its not "lock and load" thats for the ought six... Lock em in....is the proper term... and yes..it means to engage the 4 wheel drive..now adays... no one gets out and turns the hubs,, either a button is pushed,,or in my case,,I have another gear stick just for that..cuz I'm a Trucker Babe...hahahahahahahah and need more gears...
Think of it this way..bout the snow fall there.. it can be a source of insulation..on the house.. sorta like the igloo effect..hmmmm?

We seem to have serious igloo effect here this morning! Top couple of inches frozen; icicles hanging off my house. Quite beautiful ... but I'm grateful I don't have to understand any of this "lock them" stuff. You're welcome to join us here!

I've enjoyed reading your California commentary on the joys of living in this part of the world! We moved down to Seattle in 1970 from Edmonton, Alberta. That last winter [1969] we had six weeks when the temperature never rose above -20 degrees Farenheit [yes, below zero] for a HIGH !!! and my dog insisted on being walked every night !!! It was so cold that the snow fell as single crystals !!! We moved down to Portland three years ago, and I think this is the only bit of real winter we've had for a long, long time. BUT I hate snow. Where I live, now, just west of the Murray and Farmington intersection, we've got a depth of about 15 to 18 inches on the back patio.
Oh, just to get down into that California or Georgia/Florida sunshine !!! A steady 75 degrees will do.
God bless, and keep warm,
Brian

The way it has been going ... and after being essentially snowed in for ten days ... I would be happy with a balmy 50 degrees! Welcome (belatedly) to Oregon!

I live in Troutdale, and have been in my house since last Saturday. I have a four foot mountain of snow, all across my front yard. I started my car yesterday, but it's totally snowed in. My sister in law lives in West Linn, and she's been in her house since it first began. So no gathering for our family this week. I will sing happy birthday to Jesus tomorrow. We haven't lost our power, Thank God!
Merry Christmas to all of you Oregonians!!!!
