Hi All,
Here is a synopsis of my life. Maybe we have something in common.
LET ME BE HONEST!!!! FIRST, I AM LOOKING FOR A FRIEND.
During the day I teach in a school for autistic and learning disabled children on Long Island, but I live in East Northport. After that I spend a lot of time cooking and tending house. I have a second job, also in the field of education. As My girls got older, I returned to school, loving every minute of it…. It made me feel young again. Anyway, I am tired of being the third wheel among all my married friends. It is also difficult to participate with the single/divorced groups, because that means the bar scene and whatever follows after. It is difficult to hide the fact that there are responsibilities at home or lead someone to expect more than I can offer.
I have spent my life caring for others, my Dad, Grandfather, my aunt in a nursing home, and now my own Mom and ailing husband. Yes you have read it right!!! It seems that I have had little time to baby myself. Perhaps that is what has made me so independent, but very often, lonely.
I must also be honest. I have been married for many years. My husband suffers from phobias, anxieties, has had a stroke, has only partial sight, and is often confined to a wheelchair. He does not, and has not for some 25 years, attended any social functions, family gatherings, weddings or funerals; my Dad's included. There is a whole history behind his illness that I was not privy to when we married. We tried separation, but there was no one to take care of him. We came to a mutual agreement about the maintenance of the house and the bills . Additionally, he has had his share of "other experiences", so there is much information that we can share as friends if you choose to write. If not, that is OK too. It is not easy to take on the woes of another when you may have your own. Now grown and married, my children are in agreement that I should “get a life”.
I can hold my end of a conversation; though I try not to get too involved in deep politics or religion…don’t want to offend anyone if I don’t have full knowledge of a particular area or subject. I love to try new things. However, at 60, skydiving is a little closer to Heaven than I‘d rather be right now. I love the water, yet haven’t had the opportunity to really enjoy many beautiful sunset walks on the beach or go to museums. History is my favorite. I love dining, dancing and concerts, but have been prisoner to my responsibilities for much of my life and have only enjoyed these opportunities through the details of others.
Anyway, I could go on and on. If you want to take a chance, drop a line. If you feel comfortable making a friend first, with no pressure, having dinner or coffee, perhaps we can talk. If not, I truly, truly understand.
