Slinky, I really feel sorry for you! You have no concept on how much love an animal can give to their master. It is unconditional love; after the death of my husband, my dog gave me a reason to get up in the mornings. Most people here know who has animals, and I can't think of anyone that would ask a potential mate to give up their pet. How selfish! I don't think anyone would even consider dating someone that wasn't an animal lover. If by chance, someone should ask me to give up my dog, I would have to say, "Don't let the door hit you in the a-- as you leave."

LISTEN: It is obvious that you have never lost a mate; quite honestly, I hope you never have to endure that kind of pain. As for confusing animals with humans, I'm sorry you do not understand the point everyone was making. We were simply stating that we would not give up our pets for someone. I don't think we would actually have to make that decision. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that I wouldn't date anyone that did not share my love of animals. Slinky, you are young and still have a lot to learn. I realize at this point, you think you know everything; trust me, you do not!
By the way, has anyone ever told you that you have a very condescending demeanor?

They do not call them best friends for nothing. Would it be right to trade your best friend for a relationship? I bet the relationship doesn't last anyway.

Nope. It will have to be a requirement, they must like my pets and my pets must like them before it ever becomes a relationship.

After reading this thread I think I may change my profile so that it states the same.

Slinky,
I truly feel sorry for you dude. How is it you can take something and turn it into such a huge deal to display your narrowmindedness????

Pets are faithful, devoted and love you even if you get on to them, it's not that people are confusing their animals with humans, but it's fact. If someone yelled at you or scolded you severly would you cower at their feet and beg for forgiveness. I think not. Most pets do. I think in the end, if we could take the good things everyone feels or knows about their pets and instill those operating principles in a human we would all have a perfect mate. But no one is saying that is even possible, not in our perfect world. HA!

Lighten up and don't take things so literal. I love my pets and don't see me parting with one of them for a mate. Either the mate was there when the animal was acquired or if they are new to the relationship and the pet was there first, then they should accept that and if they can't well, mate you are not. The end.
