It is always healthy to have people from the two political parties question
decisions and the laws being passed.

It seems that the GOP has gone so far to the right that it has completely turned
off the younger generation.
When you see people like D*ck Cheney and Rush Limbaugh be on the Republican stage
year after year - it is pretty scary.

WE are seeing a battle of the old guard, trying to hold onto the power they believe they should have. But there are younger, less strident Republicans waiting impatiently in the wings. And they are pissed that these dinosaurs are sucking all of the oxygen out of the air.

The GOP will continue to shrink and will represent predominantly white, southern, racist, misogynist men. If they can only attract 25% of the population, they will be in the wilderness for generations.

I sometimes wish for an enlightened GOP to resurface, to allow for real debate on important issues. Othertimes, I hope they continue to promote windbags like Rush Limbaugh and D*ck Cheney, those crackers Cornyn, Sessions, McConnell and all the other OLD southern white men.

I don't have faith that any enlightenment will occur. They will battle and essentially eat their own to promote purity and adherence to the conservative code.

Peace, Pam

crackers? Do I detect a touch of racism? If we are to expel tolerance and gain global peace, shouldn't we lose the racist labels?

Not racism....frustration with the INTOLERANCE coming from an erstwhile "superior" group: southern white men, who are trying to hold on to power they believe is their ENTITLEMENT.

I am a woman. We know all too well what that club is and how the members of the club choose to allow "others" in, or not. I am just one "other" - there are a variety of others, but ALL are non-white, non-Christian, non-Conservative, non-male.

The Republican party represents the club. And they want their perogatives and their power protected. Anyone not with them is against them. That simple.

Consider me one of their worthy adversaries!

Peace, Pam

So, that gives you the right to use derogatory terms? Just because someone doesn't agree with you, they are a "Cracker"?

The simple truth is the current condition of the Republican Party is rooted in its inability to see America as it is and not as its "leaders" want it to be.The Party has failed to reach out to new immigrants, people of color and women as well as young voters. Its PMS--pale, male and stale and even Palin for all her excitement couldnt help it out because she isnt politically seasoned or astute and once you got past the new clothes she had nothing to say that wasnt spoon fed and handed to her. No one who isnt a dyed in the wool conservative is welcome in the party and ANY party with the likes of Rush as a titullar head is bound to hit the rocks and sink . Steele, McConnell,Boehner,Cheney the whole gang lack ideas, offer no solutions and are (to quote another famous Republican- Spiro Agnew) "nothing but nattering naybobs of negativity"...all this hype of Jindal,Palin,Cantor et al as the future is bunk, and man do I love that nutcase Michelle Bachman from Minnesota.. they are all being banished to the political wilderness and will be hard pressed to remain electable unless and until the Democrats screw things up as bad as the GOP did for over the last eight years...whats their future then? Huckabe? Romney? Paul? Pawlenty, Jeb or Crist ?....right! Aint happening. The elephant has escaped from the circus and is off to its graveyard....say goodbye Jumbo!

Some are angry: that they lost, that members of their own party don't "get it", that extremists speak poorly for the whole party, that namecalling and hateful vitrol is unproductive and reflects poorly on all.

Some are disappointed: in their leaders for not stepping up prior to Obama's election, for selecting Palin as VP candidate, for either side of the bailout, and for silent leaders not outcrying various debacles, from Abu Ghraib to the banking scenario and reasons to go to war.

Some are ignorant: say it often enough so it must be true, socialist, communist, no birth certificate, Muslim, big government, more taxes on everyone, criticize every democrat, every democratic idea and insult leaders to the point where they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Some just must be right. They hold to their priciples even if the principles are wrong, misapplied, broken. Their faith is so strong, they hold to the thinking no matter what; facts mean nothing. Furthermore, if you don't agree, you are wrong, or a sinner, or evil. And there are no shades of gray.

Fortunately, more folks are not giving away their voice. They are educating themselves on the issues and candidates, more involved in overseeing governmental processes, putting their money where their mouth is, and committing themselves to becoming part of the civic process.

Its not name calling when its true. Besides, theres folks in that Party who go around wearing nicknames like "dittohead " as a badge of honor....nutcase is appropriate, accurate and in her case, well earned.

They're trying to throw up a smoke screen by going after Pelosi.

The focus is redirected to Pelosi and not to the Bush years.

The real reason why President Obama didn't release the torture pictures.

The torture photos should be released. I understand they're not as bad as the pics from Abu Ghraib, anyway. Not that I'm trying to defend what happened. I'm with the crowd that feels all the pictures should be made public. The U.S. owes this to the world - to show we are no longer into hiding and covering up our misdeeds. Get it out there, get it over with, and move on.

Sorry, I went off-topic. I agree the GOP is in the toilet, and apt to stay there for awhile because of continuing to pander to the radical right elements. Their "base" is out of touch with the majority of the country. People aint buying that snake oil anymore, not after eight years of the pure-dee hell that came from it. What worked for awhile for shrub Bush isn't working anymore. But, they just don't get it. Their "grass roots" movements are a joke, as well. The "Tea Parties" drew in all manner of radical nut cases. People living off Social Security, holding up signs saying "Don't raise my taxes". Give me a break. The Republicans wouldn't know a real grass roots movement, if it came up and bit them in the butt.

Not to bash the supporters of big oil and old money, but I don't think the Democrats could do anywhere near as bad as the Republicans have done these last eight years. As I stated in another thread, Obama was dropped into a storm-of-the-century economic disaster that has spiraled out of control. Some businesses have been saved, others have shut down, and still others are now severely threatened. Some major banks out there are losing customers because other banks are gaining them and vice versa. If you think major corporations aren't worried, you're dead wrong. I know this sounds bad, but Democrats wouldn't have let us get into this situation.

Democrats, in my experience, focus more on the "little people" in the nation than on the bigwigs. They are more concerned with the well-being of people struggling to make their way in the world than keeping people whose annual paychecks come to over a hundred thousand a year in business. I am a Democrat through and through because of that. These last eight years are proof that we need more Democrats in the White House than Republicans IMO. Now, maybe there are a few Republicans out there who actually have something interesting to say about various issues, but you guys are right: the GOP is presently a cesspool and nothing more.

And by the way, farmhand, you should be less worried about the names being thrown out than the issues being discussed. GOP could be considered an insult if you really think about it, depending on how it's used (sarcasm is always fun ). It's kinda tacky to get hung up on such things while ignoring what's actually being said.

Do not be too quick to write the Republicans off. It was not very long ago when everyone was writing the Democrats off. Politics is a pendulum and swings back and forth which , although not very efficient, provides a means of checks and balances to overextensions by both parties.
