I am for single payer health care. I have friends in Canada and they love their health care. Yes their taxes do come to about 40% of their pay but mine is 30% plus, without health care and co-pays etc., already! I would pay 40% if I received free health care, prescriptions, glasses, etc. No they don't have to wait any longer in the emergency rooms than we do. Our emergency rooms are filled with people who don't have health care anyway so it takes longer for those of us who do have insurance to get help anyway! They are not denied care and operations that are necessary like many people want us to believe. It is decided by their doctors and the patient and no one else. My premiums are $ 489.00 per month through my employer because I am a women and the men's insurance is $ 285.00 per month. How unfair. I am not of child bearing age anymore but I still pay a higher premium! There is so much waste in our health care system it's ridiculous and makes me sick. The drug reps in this country supply lunch for EVERY doctors office EVERY day in EVERY city. I have many friends and relatives in the health field and this is very true! I have seen it with my own eyes. I wish someone would by my lunch EVERY day. Can you imagine how much this costs the drug companies EVERY day. Wouldn't you like to know how much the drug companies spend on TV commercials! We could have a lot cheaper drugs without this waste. It should be banned! Maybe when I retire I can move to Canada. If they'll have me. At least I would have good health care.

I agree with ya Debrace...the canadians do like their medical care system. We just have a vocal minority that for whatever lame reason don't want decent health care for its people period.

Why are so many Americans distrustful of Health Care Reform? I think it's because...
The insurance and pharmaceutical companies have the Republican legislators in their hip pockets. And...the GOP has staged a very successful fear-mongering campaign.

Medicare for all would make the most sense since the system already exists and it could cover everyone

Let's face it people; our elected leaders are bought and paid for by companies that have a HUGE financial interest in keeping the status quo.

Huge companies lead to huge payouts, in campaign contributions AND advertising/news coverage. It's the background drumbeat of "protest" you keep hearing about, but what you're actually seeing is basically paid protests designed to give the ILLUSION of a "grassroots movement".

In my town I've seen no more than 2 or 3 lone people holding up signs by the road. But hey, never underestimate the hidden number of other socially challenged, basement-dwelling AM radio and Fox News fans!

Most REAL people are either indifferent to healthcare reform, or support some measure of reeling insurance companies back in. The smartest thing of all would be a single payer system, of course. But corporate greed isn't going to let that happen until the last dollar has been wrung from us.

Noone in this country should be deprived of health care or lose everything they worked for to get it. If it is voted in the oposing party should not be allowed to let it go under if and when they get back in office. If our medical profesionals can help 3rd world countries with their medical challenges then they should not be against helping their own countrymen. I am just sorry that Hilary wasn't able to get it passed years ago.

I am getting so fed up with so many people who are bashing Obama for this health care reform, calling it a socialist move and complaining that now we are worse off.
We totally are not! If this new health care reform is going to provide for people who have it worse than we do and save my family grief, than hell yes, i support this reform!

Ask any person who is opposed to health insurance reform if they have ever written a check out to a health insurance company and my guess is the answer will be "NO". Obama did good. Medicare for all would be best. Right now the government subsidizes the insurers by providing insurance for the elderly and disabled who are the highest risk consumers. Why should the taxpayers have to do this. Medicare for all who want to buy it would be fair competition between the government and private insureres. And if they can't compete, too bad.

I agree with Health Care (I'm Canadian and I love it) but I strongly DISAGREE with Obama's implementation of it. He's too soft. He was weak against the republicans when he had a mandate with all this "non-partisan" BS! How can he be non-partisan after 8 years of Bush? I like the man, but he's retarded! He should have kicked some republican a** and implemented the program he ORIGINALLY wanted to implement. There are more holes in his Health Care plan than a #9 sponge!

I agree with you. You do not see the Canadian people kicking down our door like the Mexacans do. So your country is doing something right. I grew up on Lake Ontario and even though I know we are two separate countries; I never felt as if we were.

I agree, from all I have heard, health care was dead after the Massachusetts Senate election until Al Franken shamed the Obama Administration into reviving it. He's turned into a pretty weak president - all talk, very little action.

The problem with you wingnuts, is you always present your opinion and act as if its fact. When its just your opinion and not based in any real facts compiled by any legitimate source. Based on surveys of Canadians, they seem to be generally happy with their health care system, while Americans are generally dissatisfied with theirs. That might explain why Canadian live on average 2 1/2 years longer than Americans. The Japanese, who also have a single payer system live over 4 years longer than Americans. The British live on average 6 months longer than Americans and the French almost a year and a half longer.
But don't believe me, read what the facts are from a few links I pulled up on health care specifically in Canada.

The problem with you right wing nuts is, you listen to right wing talk radio and fox news cause thats what you want to hear, not because its the truth. Cause the facts just dont support any of your assertions.

You are also wrong when you say that everything that government touches is screwed up, when in fact, thats garbage too. But I'll save that for another day

While I agree with the basic idea of this above , I do not believe in socialism.
There were other ways they could have gone about this than a forced down your throat bill.

The only problem I had with the Healthcare issue is the federal mandate that required people to have some sort of insurance.

I think the strong public option should've stayed in as well.

Other than that, the provisions that prevent company discrimination (e.g. can't deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions) are solid in my book. It's what should have happened many years earlier (IMO).

Washingtomn state requires drivers to be insured when they use public roads. i was upset about that law. but now that i have been paying for years, i can understand that other people who also use public roads appreciate insured drivers. it lowers costs. uninsured motorists that cant pay for damages raise the costs for everyone else. its selfish, irresponsible and lacks integrity and accountability.

i dont see the health care mandates for insurance are any different. the ones required to buy are a tiny minority. their payments do not carry the burden for everyone else. the rest are covered by work insurance, medicare, medicaid, or qualify for a state assisted health plan. its just a tiny fraction, an exception to the rule, to accomplish what's really on their agenda- turning healthcare back into a priveledge system that extracts the most money it can from everyone.

we have a problem, nearly half the population believe in many of the neo-fascist principals and aren't even aware of it. They're taught to believe things that benefit the super rich but hurt them, while being led to believe it's good for them. It's hard to fight against people who desperately cling to propaganda as their reality. They get scared letting go of it to grasp onto something they don't fully understand, or even goes against their grain.

agree. i'm sick to death of all the complaints that it didn't go far enough. Did all these people forget 92. It went about as far as a first step can. When the rest of he country begins to reap the rather mild benefits of the new bill and See's that there insurance company didn't go belly up and the doctor is still there. They might begin to realize that this is not a march to stalinist communism. That should be about the same time that we see some results from the study groups put in place by the bill. Hopefully this will make for a more friendly environment for some more substantial changes. This is all besides the point that we could really use the forthcoming exchanges. So I definitely agree.

I agree health care should be for all and move to a single payer system. Healthier citezens perform better. No one should die because we can afford it. I can't stand the tea partiers their nuts. We are the most powerful country in the world and should afford our health care. They should cut defense spending and use those funds fort a single payer system.
