I have family and friends in the military. I do not support this war and did not support the one in Vietnam either. With my military family and friends, we respect each other's difference of opinion. I had many friends that died in that terrible war in Vietnam and saw some come back very damaged. I do support our troops, the people themselves, and think they should be honored for their service for what they believe in. It makes me very sad that throughout history we have always used violence for a solution to so called resolve our differences. I believe in passive resistance and see nothing wrong with peaceful protesting. I think our soldiers are not treated fairly either, and receive shabby medical treatment and their retirement age was upped, plus benefits have been cut when they retire.

Thank you for sharing the photos.

I was told in grade school that at times of distress the countries flag goes upside down, or at half mast. I wasnt really thinking much about the flag when I shot these photos. I was thinking about how seldom it is that I get to relate to other people. And it made me feel as though I wasn't the only one who wanted good for the world. People being against the war and for the environment is the only way I relate to people. I was actually surprised that I was seeing nothing about depleted uranium at that protest, since it was such a big factor in the begining of the war.

Yes, a great many of these people do all of the things mentioned above.
They have jobs, they pay taxes into a war machine they do not support, but pay anyway because that is their responsibility.
Often for mass demonstrations, or even smaller community protests, these people will use their vacation time, sick time, or flat out beg for the time off. Many have to arrange for childcare; and there are a dozen other details, such as paying the rent early or passing the hat around for bail money that definitely Will be needed.
They know from bitter experience that by speaking up they risk arrest or worse.

And I have personally seen that 'worst' with my own eyes.
This is not alarmist BS. Any doubters may be referred to the FTAA protests in Miami, where these people were beaten with night sticks and riot shields, pepper-sprayed unnecessarily, and then violated once hauled into jail.

These people have families; they pay taxes as they work lousy jobs, and they have complex value systems. And more frequently than one might expect from their reputation, these people are active in their communities in ways that may seem unexpected. Volunteering in everything from Habitat for Humanity, to scrounging up food from grocery stores for ailing food banks. These people live in every part of the country.

And I have barely scratched the surface here; you see, "these people" are Americans.
And they are exercising Rights accorded to all of us.
In a very real way they too keep America free.

These people help keep some of our fundamental rights to assemble and speak freely alive. And they do it in the knowledge that they are at risk of bodily harm from the police, who have been known to...fiercely overreact.

I do not write this to antagonize, or to preach politics, but merely to illustrate a truth that the image the popular media feeds us as to the nature of "these people" who protest, is based on the foolish and violent actions of a very stupid, and very small minority. And the media fosters fear of this, to keep their stories edgy and fresh.
While the majority of folks are peacefully standing up for all of our rights, as citizens of America.

I dont like your pictures. My son was in Iraq, fighting to keep our country free. So people like you can have your freedom. Count your blessing that our men and woman love our country and our freedom.. Pray for our soldiers and suport them. Grow up.

I would agree, and raise you one.
Grow up. Get educated.

This war is being fought for natural resources: Not for our "Freedom", but for our freedom to continue using the lion's share of planetary resources with impunity; for our freedom to treat an entire nation and population like a "political and tactical Asset"

If you do not like pictures of people standing up for peace, then don't look; you'll be in crowds upon crowds of dubious company.

And as for the sign in the bottom pic about '3000 and counting'.
Well, the true death toll is getting closer to 300,000.
Or are we only counting, and becoming upset over, American deaths?

I understand about free speech, and their right to protest, HOWEVER, they would not be able to do any of those things if it wasn't for our troops who sacrifice their LIVES for us every day. The pictures are good, and very real (kudos on the good shots sweetie) about what others think, but my father, who fought in WWII for my freedom, gives people today the right to their opinions...(which we all know what they say about opinions).
I also do not agree with this war, and would love nothing more than to have our troops home, so just remember, be mad about the war, but SUPPORT OUR TROOPS BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT US EVERY DAY! GOD BLESS THEM!

The flag is the symbol of the country that allows you the freedom to protest!
I am a Vietnam vet. I fought for that flag, your country and for the freedom of your parents to give you the right to protest.
If you want to protest, protest the Jerk that got us into this war not the symbol of the country you live in and guarentees your rights.
