I get excited talking about writing. I have been published 30 times, not books, although I am working on one, tenatively titled "Point of No Return"

I used to write to be published.. now I just write for myself. Most of the time I will just have a phrase in my head and I'll work on it for a few days, roll it around in my mind until it's reasonably put together then promptly forget it when it's down. It's not that I just 'forget' it, it's that I was happy with the little poem I thought of and it never needed to see a page or find the web. It was just for me.

Other then that I would like to write fantasy novels. I will have to relearn how to structure my brain before that though... not geared up to organize multiple characters, for shadowing, plot, twists, conflicts... Not yet at least.

Let us know when 'Point of No Return' comes out dear! I'll go buy it.

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted lately. Life has been a little hectic for me in this continous heatwave in Al.

I am thrilled to see writers respond.

For those of you who write, and have not been published, I urge you to save all of your work. I started out writing for myself, just to put my thoughs down, most of the time it was in the form of poetry which seemed just to flow naturally.

When I felt God called me to write seriously at age 56, I knew that I needed to learn how to correctly write essays, articles and stories so I self-taught from books I checked out from the library(didn't own pc or had never even turned one on). I had an old typewriter and submitted work from addresses I got from a library Writers Market book-and used snail mail to submit. I only had 8 rejects and 18 months later I sold 2 pieces at the same place. I was elated. So my paid for writing began, buy I always breathed "Thank you, Lord" for I knew it was a gift from him.

Anyway, I began using portions of my previously written poetry amid an article or story.
Of course, it fit the topic. After 14 publishings, our county daily paper did a featured story about me on the front pg. which opened up local opportunities.

So...save your writing! I saved mine for 25 years.

Hope this might encourage someone for the writing bug will never leave once it finds a place in your heart.

I'm a journalist and copywriter. I've published most, if not all, my non-fiction work. I've also had several radio scripts developed for P.E. programs in schools called GoZonkers. Had one scrapbooking how-to book published by Paperkuts.

I have fiction manuscripts and short stories in my drawer but for some reason I've never tried to have those published. Too shy or something. Wierd of me, huh?

Anyway, I will try to get samples of it onto this site at some point if any of you are interested. I have around 50 pages so far.

I've written short stories and articles from time to time as the spirit moves me. However, I realized that writing a novel - a really good novel - is a big project and serious commitment of time. It does make me appreciate reading a good book more after doing a bit of writing.

Ayup, I'm a writer. I've published about 30 non-fiction, 'how-to' type articles on ehow.com, and I'm currently working on my first novel, tentatively called "Before Darkness Falls". It's a book about a special operations team that has to find and dismantle a Nazi super-bomb.

I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a "writer" but I am an aspiring writer. I mostly write screenplays as I aspire towards becoming a film-maker, but currently I want to try my hand at short story writing and see if I can write a book's worth of them.
I'd love to hook up with other local writers, so if you're up for it, get in touch with me.

yes, though like many i avoided it, or got lost in the world, tons of poems, mostly painful ones to get it out of my head, or ill hear some line in a song and it will strike me and ill expand on it. now im working on a self help book and a novel. funny how i see that some of you are working on a few things at once, i always am reading 2-3 books at a time too. just that way. book is called "the thirteenth sign" about how the 13th astrological sign was jesus' sign and it was hidden so that we wouldnt know when the next{jesus} was to be born. focus is on all the things that keep us sleeping, flouride, aluminum, chemicals in food electro magnetics etc{ not to mention ex-wives;]}] any way all of the ophiuchus sign awaken on the same morning and begin to clear their fridges, work out and teach their friends[and lovers\wives\ about the path and the war for the second coming of jesus on...12-21-12 Jesus will not be the son of god, but more like a guru maybe, have many ldeas on"god" but the book writes itself, i just open up a vein and let it flow. as for the self help book see help with self help post im about to create.

I try. I write poems in times of pain but I always destroy them after. I am trying to write an alien/horror story atm. Sometimes I get an idea and ill start writing...its always interesting to see it evolve into something I never knew it could be. One idea leads to like ten more and so on...kinda writing add lol. As far as getting published, I wouldn't even know how to begin.

I'm a writer. I've been published but not paid, but the genre wasn't conducive to income. Currently looking at taking this whole writing seriously and will be submitting work in a few months to literary publications in the hopes of building something more profitable. I've written a blog steady for a few years, hosted a column in a local newspaper and two online community blogs.

I'm a bit miffed that right now I don't have a new short story idea, and I don't have time to flesh out the novel idea...why? Cause I work AND go to school...creative writing major, so that helps.

I like to write about things that happen but no one knows who did it. I know thats mistery but writing helps me cope with everyday stresses.

Hmm ideas. Im not sure I dont write down an plot or write dont charactor. I cant it would always change. I just write and make them up as I go. I can take one word and run with it. That is always the way ive been able to do it. I found that if I do that with the plot and stuff it never really goes anywhere because I cant just go by that. A lot of people love the stuff I write so I know I am doing something right.
You could write about someone being stocked and she runs into the arms of an exboyfriend or visa versa and it turns out to be that person or it could be someone who loves her but she wont give a time of day to. There is something to concider. Please let me know how it goes for you. Whatever it is you write about I am curious as to what you like to write.

I've been published, to date, 16 times. I have two novels coming out next month, 'Recluses' from Double-Dragon Publishing, who have published me eleven times since 2001. Also in July comes 'Sidekicks Incorporated' from Passionate Writer Publishing. 'Recluses' is a collection of short stories (two novellas also), mostly suspense and mystery...with just a shade of horror. 'Sidekicks' is a mystery/thriller. Writing to me is therapy...the words must escape! I'm currently 74,000 words into another book, this time Sci-Fi. I also love to read...Stephen King is, of course, the master of suspense, but I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, Thomas Harris, Robert Block, and so many others.

Does anyone else ever experience this sensation? You could be going about the daily doings of your day, and suddenly get an idea so great that you stop everything to find some sort of writing utensil just to get it down before you forget it? I certainly do, and might just purchase a writing pad and pen that can be attached to some portion of my body.

Happy writing.

I hesitate to call myself a writer but I think I am moving in that direction. Anyway, yes, I frequently get little inspirations about writing, usually just a phrase or sometimes a few sentences. It almost always happens when I am hiking, and occasionally when driving. Those are difficult times to jot things down and I, too, thought of attaching a small writing tablet, lol. A few times I recorded it on my cellphone but now I just text a message and sent it to my email. (Don't worry, not while I'm driving.)

I have several pens and notepads lying around my apartment so I can get to the idea fast since once one idea comes in more start flooding in and I fear ill lose the original. I try to short hand all my ideas but that sometimes turns into ten pages
