Human urine is supposed to work, and will add nitrogen to the soil. You need a 6 foot tall fence, and most deer can still jump it if they want to. You can use small bamboo tomato stakes and put a row of fishing line about 3 feet and another at 4 feet and the deer will avoid it because they can't see it at night.

Any hunter knows deers flee from people pee...

Actually if you raise a pup with them or get a cat friendly dog your cats will be fine.
The dog will run off and warn you of all kinds of intruders. Best home defense, especially in the country is a BIG dog. Mine eat together and sleep together in big furry piles. The dogs dont mind cold ground and the cats like curling up on the portable warm beds... I'd post pics if I knew how.

After hearing about the fishing line. I googled it and read many of the articles. I am trying this next year. I am sick of loosing fruit trees to deer rubbing their horns on them. And the cost won't be so bad either..

Human hair clippings near your plants will help keep them away. I think I heard once that fox urine (purchased at Sporting goods stores) can also help keep them away.

Best thing i have found besides a loaded shotgun is Irish Spring soap, it gives a strong odor, you can cut it into slices or place it whole, it works and is great on killing aphids&whiteflies too.

I live right in town, I would have never thought to see deer within, but last yr something must have been lacking in the woods because they decided to use my yard as a buffet.

My neighbor gave me some of the "liquid fence" OMG does the stuff stink, but works like a chain, one dose all the way around the property line and GONE!

I live in the country, my first property was back in the woods. Deer were an issue. This was my recipe: in a big 20 gallon bucket, (I used an old spackling bucket)I tossed in a crushed a dozen eggs, shells and all, added about 1/4 cup dish soap, cayenne pepper, garlic powder and bought cheap Dollar store perfume cologne to throw in the mixture, filled the bucket to the top with water. I threw scoops of it all along the property border and it acted like an invisible fence.
My friend used to let me clean out his chicken coop and I added that in the mixture, the deer hated it.
If my dog was barking because he heard the deer in the woods, I also kept spray cologne or air deodorizer spray to scent the air. I did that in a pinch when I knew the egg recipe had worn off after a few weeks.
I'm telling ya, I had unbelievable gardens. I'm at a new place for 4 yrs, only 1 mile from my other place, deer are still here but not in my yard. I don't have to make the recipe as often, but as soon as I see any in the area, they get the egg treatment.

Aggressive= shotgun and shells

Passive but it works.. Seven Dust all your plants and flowers.
If you have a large Garden..10+fencing and seven dust... The cayenne pepper..is confused with another remedy..its red snuff in a stocking sprinkled over your roses to get rid of the spiders.

Good luck and I hope you all reap what you have sewn.

I have a farm. The only sucessfull way is to shoot them. I don't like to do it. But they are overpopulated and there are many accidents and human fatalities involving deer. My friend was killed last month coming home late at night on his harley. A deer ran out in front of him. I'm getting more okay with shooting them aall the time.

You don't have to shave the soap into shavings. You can drill a hole in it and hang it in the tree. It will take longer to melt that way. Also try to stick to Dove soap. It is environmentally safe.

put a tall fence around it. got several friends who are having a bad problem with them and they have come to the conclusion that putting a tall fence up is the only answer. in west virginia you get get a special permit to shoot them if they are destroying your crops. one friend said he killed 5 and probably could have killed 50 more. they are getting overpopulated. i know they will eat tomato plants, green beans, beet tops and a lot more other stuff. getting to be a real menace. everyone have a nice day.

I put some fiber optic decorative lights near my plants. So far, the deer have not bothered any of mine. I purchased my lights from a local store--they were only $7.00 per light that day on sale. You can also purchase them over the internet.

Let me know if you try it and it works for you...

My grandfather always had a large garden with every kind of veggie and fruit he could grow. He went to the nearest Dollar Store and purchased as many shakers of Red Cayenne Pepper he could. He would sprinkle it around his entire garden. No more Deer, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, cats or dogs! The animal gets one sniff, it burns a little but they never come back. If your lucky, you can get the pepper 2 for a dollar.

I have read some great suggestions for you to use with lots of your money. I have not heard my favorite one, call your local "COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT" That is one of the items our taxes pay for, his salary. Please use his knowledge and resources. Every state in our union has one per county. My grampa always made early morning walks around our garden sprinkling as he went and every haircut went to the garden along with all vegetable scapes for compost. Deer were never a problem and when grampa wanted them to put in the freezer, he always knew were to go to get what he needed to feed the family. Good luck. I have never seen a fence they couldn't jump over.

From a beautician friend - old knee highs with the cut-offs of the day when women get their haircuts - hang on the fence surrounding the garden, poof. The human scent usually does the trick. Collect the cutoffs for a week or so to have plenty on hand.
Worst comes to worst - two strands of electric fence wire, eighteen inches apart, about three feet off the ground. Great for perimeter use!!!

mix mayo, milk and a couple of eggs and put in a spray bottle. let it sit in the sun and get really really ripe. it will stink to high heaven til it dries on the plants. the smell goes away to humans, but obviously not to the deer. it's the only thing i've found that works for me.....good luck

Irish Spring soap. Cut a bar up into quarters and spread it around your garden. A piece every 4 feet in front will do. The other effective options are disgusting. Blood meal works for a short while also, but needs frequent reapplication.

One of the cheapest n easiest way is sented bath soap... Purchase some of the smaller ones and place them around your flowers. The man made scent will detour the deer. Another way is to goto your local beauty/hair salon and get some of the hair clippings. Spread them around the area. The scent of human will help detour them too.

I lived in the country most of my life until two years ago. I have more than just deer that wanted my vegetables and flowers. I used two methods that worked like a charm. Human hair clippings scattered along the edge of a garden work well. Like others have said... the scented soaps work wonders. Deer hate it. My method was to use knee high stockings which are fairly cheap. Cut a piece of soap for each and add human hair. Hang them in trees near the gardens. Hang them on wooden stakes you place throughout the gardens. When they are all washed out from rains, replace. It works!
