I am a song writer and one of my best is one I wrote about this feeling, the title of the song "IF I GOTTA BE LONELY, I'D RATHER BE LONELY ALONE"Tuff as it is being alone is never as bad as being with someone and still being alone. Sometimes its hard to remember but belive me, If you settle for less than something you really want to work on a relationship, It will be harder to forget.

I can handle being alone. I don't like to be lonely. The two are different. My 1st marriage I wasn't alone but I was lonely.

After being alone for almost 21yrs now, I found out I can not be alone that long and not know myself.
So along the way I discovered that being alone is a piece a cake IF the person your alone with is worthy of your company.Make sense? Someone can only be comfortable being alone if they like themselves. And I do.
Sure there are times when I get lonely, but that doesn't leave me in such a state where I HAVE to be with someone, this too will pass, and it does. There are sooooooo many things to explore and do in this world, even if your world doesn't have distance to it. Books, walks, NATURE, thinking and trying new things, they don't really have to be out of this world exciting things, just different.
As corny as it may sound, being in nature is the best comfort anyone can find. Take a look around a REAL good look around. Look up look down, side to side, listen, smell, touch, each time you walk outside something new is hiding right around the corner. May come in the form of a beauitful sun rise or set, a bird you have never seen before. The smell in the air before and after a rain, the sound of the winds blowing thru the trees, it's all there and it's there as long as someone is willing to enjoy it.
Study yourself, pay attention to your reaction to different surroundings, what makes you happy and what makes you feel as if you want to smack someone upside the head. Avoid the bad, go for the good.
I LOVE not having to answer to anyone, except my dog, lol, she is queen. I have no set hours to do anything. If I want to stay up late or head out on some road trip, I can without a notice to anyone.
Being your own friend should leave you with a comfort of knowing you are never really alone. JMO

I have been alone almost 7 years now. I live in the middle of no where in Montana. I was more alone when I was married than now, so be careful what you wish for.

You got it girl , I am here if you ever need to talk. I am happy to know that you are beating the cancer that is great , I lost my parents to cancer and it was a very hurtful thing. We all need someone sometime to lean on so add me to your friends list and I will be here when you need me. Good luck on your new start.

It's been 18 yrs for me now.......but for the past 12 I have my daughter so I'm never really alone... It really doesn't bother me - I'd rather be alone and happy then be with someone and be miserable.

Hi there,
I dont think that any of us were meant to be alone. We all have a soulmate out there. That someone that just "gets us". Unfortunately it is hard finding that person. Many of us, myself included, find things to occupy ourselves just to avoid being alone. Being alone and being lonely are two different things. I can be alone 99% of the time and I'm ok. I read, write and just hang out with my computer. But then that 1% of the time the loneliness kicks in and I just want to shrivel up and die. I know exactly how you feel but when I feel lonely I try to concentrate on all the positives in my life and get up and do something fun - like a movie or so.
hang in there, it gets easier as time goes by.
Carrie.

I agre we are seldom really alone. Heck, the TV is a great companion especially if you want to be alone. I can zone out and ignore everything else around me.
