Ok guys here it goes. I've been a long time Democrat, always voted the straight ticket. I've viewed for many years that the Republican Party is the true enemy of the people. When it comes to budget cuts its always on the back of the poor and middle class. This new congress is the ultimate worst that I have had the misfortune of knowing of. THEY ARE TOTALLY EVIL. However, I have lost faith with the Democrats as well, because they don't have the guts to stand up to the evil right wing. Its been politics as usual. I'm so sick of it. So because of that reason, I'm now a devote SOCIALIST !!! Yes, I said Socialist. Don't confuse socialism with communism, theres a big difference. I'm not afraid nor ashame to say that I'm for socialize medicine, strong trade unions, extremely tight controls on big business, government price controls on manufactured and retail goods. Also I'm anti free trade and pro high tariffs . I support gay rights and the list goes on and on. Why am I saying this ??? Its time for Americans to rethink the two party system. Personally, I like to tell the Republicans to go to Hades and for the Democrats to kiss my backside. If any of you out there support the same issues as I do and share my political feelings, may I suggest , checking out one of the many socialist parties. I believe that you will be both amazed and pleased with what you will find out.

Eventually we will be so short on resources that we will have to switch
* from competing against each other for survival
* to competing With each other for survival.
Does that make sense? ATM we are competing against each other to gather the most resources (like $$, aka as prepackaged energy for trade). This creates clear winners and losers. and no, I'm not whining about the losers. I'm looking at this from the perspective of a sustainable species. This kind of energy redistribution shortens the lifespan of the overall species. Anyhow, we hoard and consume resources, and create excess waste, while those whom are outcompeted increase in suffering. This can't go on indefinitely.

Eventually the species has to start competing with itself to increase its chances for survival. For instance, competing with others by measuring who has the greatest impact in supporting the species. like discovering a near infinite power source like cold fusion, or a high yielding super healthy crop. Its essentially focusing on how many people can a person support as opposed to what can we do for me or just my close circle.

I'm for any system that leads towards greater chances for the survival of the species. this 2 party system doesn't cut it.

I lived in Norway for four years. If that is socialism, I want it. Nobody is worried about how they are going to eat, if there will be roof over their heads, or if they can get healthcare if they need it. The crime rate is close to zero.

I wrote to my two Senators, both Democrats, and told them it was time to take the kid gloves off.

Somebody needs to grow a backbone and stand up to the Republicans.

yah I heard outrageous stuff about norway. when you move out of the parents place you get a small stipend for modest housewares and an apt. the country is family friendly. I mean for example they don't have a family friendly line b/c they don't advertise trash to teens or junkfood to little kids. they have a reduced work week. doctor checkups are mandatory. vacations are mandatory. people don't b*tch about paying for public education.

my friends had a grandma that was a small business owner. She paid high taxes in a socialist country. she was retired. she could come to the states whenever she wanted. she took the grandkids wherever they wanted (disneyland, ny, grand canyon, mt rushmore etc). she always bought a bunch of stuff for them. oh clearly she was just being taxed to death.

the neo-fascist propaganda crap that's spread here, that always benefits that top 2% the most and doesn't do sh!t for the bottom 85%, is just sickening. How do people fall for it year after year?

I think changing people will be much more difficult than just discussion or pressure. Although we should always keep dialogue with the dark side.

ok here's my point. Political inclinations are based on personality and values. Personality and values depend on how we interpret the world. Our interpretation may depend heavily on genetic makeup. Trying to change some core political values in some people may be like trying to change their eye color from blue to brown.

here's a couple of short articles.

frankly I think a lot of conservatism come from fear. Fear feeds greed. It's an insecurity. Fear also breeds a feeling to fend for yourself, picking a strong leader, following blindly. A good example of this is the (fictional) book Lord of the flies. Even though it's fiction I think people relate well to it b/c they know on a deeper level that human nature would often lead to those kinds of situations.

now take it on a grander, "civilized" scale. The fearmongers elect a leader and attack anyone that doesn't conform.
