Since you are a Neil Gaiman fan I will make a suggestion.
Good Omens. He and Terry Pratchett wrote this about a baby mix up. the baby who was switched at birth? the antichrist. It's hilarious! Well written and fun!
Now, I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan, so...
1. American Gods
2. Anansi Boys
3. The Sandman series.
Also,
1. Ernest Hemmingway - For Whom The Bell Tolls.
2. Robert Pirsig - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
3. Jimmy Buffett - A Salty Piece of Land.
4. Sun Tzu - The Art of War

House of Leaves by Danielewski. Because I like science, architecture, film, photography, puzzles, Greek mythology, the unexplained supernatural, family, friendship, adventure, explorers of terrains physical and abstract, terror, and critical analysis. And because in ten years that I've read and reread it I cannot conclusively say I've finished it lol
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is a close second. Grendel by Brown is one of the few books that I can't read at normal pace. The writing is just too beautiful to scarf down. Beautiful Children by Brock is amazing, too. Enough to keep you busy for a year these four books

I can't pick just one, so I'll list a few.
-The Succession series by Scott Westerfeld (it's two books, 'The Risen Empire' and 'Killing Of Worlds', but they were originally supposed to be published as 1 book called 'Succession', until his publisher refused to publish it unless he split it into 2 books because it was too long. All I'll say about this book is it takes place 5,000 years in the future, and focuses on the 80 worlds ruled by the Risen Emperor for the last 1,600 years)
-Moon War by Ben Bova (About how a colony of several thousand people on the Moon are forced to either shut down the Moonbase colony, or fight the World Government for their independence).
-The Return by Ben Bova (The grand finale to Ben Bova's loosely connected Grand Tour series, it's a great ending to the 15+ book series)
