My wedding ring? one of my dogs took it from the coffee table. I had been wearing it since day one. My in laws told me, "you shouldn't wear your wedding ring while working, it will be scratched and damaged!" So I looked at it, sure enough I wasn't being nice to it! So I started taking it off! One night, we decided to go out to dinner & did not bother to put on my ring. That was the first time we left the puppies behind. We came home late, I was looking for my ring- GONE! I know I left it on the coffee table.
Never saw that ring again! So my late husband also quit wearing his, except when he went to the bar for a drink! I'm not really fond of wearing jewelries, but like making them- through lost wax process! I always feel this thing on my finger and felt like a constriction!

I was married for 30years, Yes it was hard to take my ring off. I made a decision to take it off after 1year. Once I settled on that date, I adjusted to that thought, and it was a lot easier when the day came.
You can maybe settle on the first day of month 18 and focus on that day and take it off. you will feel great and go on with your life with confidence. Rosie

msabe, when the time is right, you will know what to do. You have a right to your feelings. It has been almost three years since I lost my husband, it took a year before I switched my anniversary band to the right hand, not because I was looking to replace him, but as a reality check for myself.
Our original wedding bands were hand woven; I have had a hasp made from my original matching band that holds his band on a gold necklace chain; sometimes it is comforting to have something material to go along with the memories.

I recently (couple of weeks ago) put my wedding band on my right hand and put another ring on my left hand. So our ring is still there anyway. Lost my husband of 25 years in June. I am new to this site.....has anyone met any good guys on here???

It took me a long time. I've been widowed what will be 4 years in March. I still put in on sometimes just for a happy moment. I was actually just thinking about putting it on & leaving it on today. Just because I feel I am still not ready to admit I'm single. They are not coming back & they don't care if we wear or don't wear them. You can wear your ring for as long as you want to & you can put it on again & again. Do what is right for you...who cares what anyone else says.

I took my ring off 14 months after my husband died, but had to replace it with another ring so I wear a ring my mother gave me that belonged to my grandmother. I think personally that should be something you do when YOU feel it's the right time for you.

my husband died two years ago and it took me awhile to take my ring off ,i took it off and put it back on. then oneday kept it off, i still think about putting it back on some times. it is so hard.

My Wife passed away in setember.I know that it was hard for me to take its off, but im keeping the rings safe for my kids when thay grow up. I took mine off after the funeral and put them togather. I can still fill it on my finger.

I took mine off 18 months after my husband died. I think it depends when you feel you are ready to take it off. there is no set time. You will know when you are ready. Something inside you just told me it was time to move on.

I've posted on this one once, but I just wanted to let you know that I wore my rings today. I wanted to & it just gave me comfort today to wear them as I was out & about. I have the right. I wore them on my right hand ring finger but I did wear them. I was going where I knew people were going to try to "fix" me today. Sometimes wearing them is a shield.

Hi folks! New to this part of DH. I took my wedding ring off 6 months after my late husband died and gave it to my youngest daughter. I bought what I call a widow's ring from a local jeweler. It has black stone, diamond, black stone, etc. I wear it on my right hand. That gives me comfort and the will to go on with my life as he would have wanted me to.

This like everything else is different for all of us . I myself still wear mind but it on my right hand as of now I feel it will stay there but I just don't know. You have to do what feels right to you.

I took my ring off two years after my husband died. I have wanted to put it back on many times. I think you should take it off when you feel that it is ok. Some of friends have never taken their rings off.

I have to take mine off for work but wear when I'm not working. I'm a cook and the food and grease bother my hands at times I always know where I put it and I have no plans of ever putting it away.

I have never taken my wedding rings off.  I moved them to the opposite ring finger after my spouse's death and they remained there until medical staff removed them when I was unconcious and about to undergo surgery on my right wrist. They have since resided on my left ring finger until my right hand ceases to swell. ... This is not a sign of "not letting go" but a clear sign of a deep and respectful cherished memory of my late husband. When, and if, I ever become involved with another 'love' in my life, my wedding rings will find a home with my eldest daughter.

About 3 yrs after my husband passed. I had a 13 yr old daughter and had already had to sell every other piece of gold he ever gave me. The big stone went into my son's engagement ring and the cash from the remaining gold and diamonds to pay the bills.
I do not think your feelings are wrong. It is customary to continue wearing it for as long as you wish. What IS wrong is for others to dictate how you should feel or what you should do. Grief is different for everyone. 8 yrs later I find I have been hiding from life because it hurts. No more, my life is happening NOW and I intend to start enjoying it!

I've always understood that wedding (and engagement) rings were a sort of insurance policy, way back when. They could be sold, if need be, for keeping the widow going after her husband's death.
I know that you'd prefer you had it now, as a tangible reminder, but it served its purpose. It celebrated your love and it took care of you when you needed it to. It's done what it was meant to do.
I've had to sell jewelry, too. Never a first choice--to sell it, but sometimes we have no other choices. Besides, the mark of that ring is in your heart. It doesn't have to be on your finger.

me and hubby were married 28 yrs, he passed at home on january 6, 2012, I never take off my ring, maybe its a way of still keeping him close, not sure when I will be able to ever take it off, guess time will tell and only I will know when the time is right to move on,

I still wear mine and his .. after 5 years. Nothing about guilt ... I switch them from right to left and back again. I wear his with mine ... other times his is either on my right hand or left and the same with mine. At first I wore his on my right hand but I have other rings that he gave me so I needed to free up my hand. That's when I started wearing them all together. I did take it off last week and lasted 3 days ... do I care what people think? Nope .... If I'm going to go on a date (have not done that yet) I will take them off my left hand ... don't want to make the other person uncomfortable. Ideally if I could meet up with a widow that would make things easier. They have been in the same place. They would also miss their wife, still love her but hopefully they are also in a good space to date. But life goes on and I still have my rings on .... will I ever take them off for good? Heck, I don't know. I guess it's the way I feel about still being "connected" with him.But hopefully someone would/could understand it has nothing to do with them ... and maybe over time and feeling comfortable "dating/connecting" I will find a time when I could take them off and feel okay with it. But right now they will stay where they are ...
PS: It's no one's business when you take them off or not. Why do they care and who are they to try to make you feel like it's wrong or you should take them off. It's 100% your designing ... why not ask them why they care if you have them on .....?

My Ring Is Still On..... After 53 Years Of Marrige To The Same Women.... We both aggreed to be buried with the rings on our "Wedding" fingers.... So far my wife has done that... And my family is aware of it and will make it happen for me.. Our rings are inscribed inside with our names and wedding date. Soooo everyone is differant... Do what you will with your ring,That makes you happy and gives peace of mind. There is no set "Thing" as to what to do with them. *** Bob ***

My rings wouldn't come off, my fingers had gotten larger. I tried everything starting about 6 months after he died,but to no avail. One night I was putting on hand cream and they slid up over the knuckle easily, so I took that as a sign. I was at about the 9 month mark. Once the rings were off I felt I could move on with my new life.Having the rings on kept me mourning.

My husband died in October (2008) and I took mine off at the beginning of 2009. I decided I wouls be stuck in grief if I didn't take them off. I still have them and I still find myself touching them on my finger or looking at my finger. Sometimes I feel naked without them. But I know that my life has to go on and I can't do that if I allow myself to be stuck (which I would be if I was still wearing them).

I had taken my ring off a week before he died. I put it back on for a month or so then put it away. I find myself opening the box wanting to put it back on but I don't. I still wear the first ring he ever gave me a simple silver Celtic knot ring he was more excited to give my that ring than my engagement. I don't think I'll ever take that one off.

i am going to be a widow for two years in NOV and i still wear my wedding ring, in fact i am a widow two times, my first husband passed in 96 and i keep my ring on my finger till the day my 2nd husband ask me to marry him...i just could not take it off..and i just don't care what anyone thinks...and this one will stay on my finger till i pass or i fine love again but i am not to sure on that one.....only 53 but i am not sure i want another husband to scared..but keep your ring on till you feel its time to take it off....

I took it off a few months after he died. Then I'd put it back on. Then off again.
When I finally kept it off, there was that indent in my finger that was still there for a long time. I figured it was symbolic of the mark on my heart.

Mine was stolen a week before he was murdered 3 1/2 years ago by house guest. I did get his ring and I wore it for 2 years. I still stare at it all the time in my jewelry box but I know he would want me to move on and be happy. It was hard taking it off at times it still is. I know he will always be in my heart though.

My husband committed suicide in March of 2010. I wore his ring and my rings until my son and his wife were having money problems in Nov. of 2011. They were such a blessing to me when I needed them . I sold my rings and gave them the money. It brought them up on all the bills and they had a wonderful Christmas for their 2 kids. Not once have I regretted that decision .the rings were gifts of love to my husband and me,what a grand pleasure it was to be able to give those rings out of love again.(I just hope my son never finds out).So wear them,save them,give them,sell them,or throw them in a lake.It is all what gives you pleasure.
So take care of yourself ,and know we are all out here.

I moved mine to my right hand after 2 mos. Our oldest son came to me at Christmas and informed me that he was going to ask his girlfriend to marry him. I gave him my ring. Just thought it was the right thing to do with it.

At my wife's funereal I gave her rings to our daughter and moved mine to my right hand. Four months later I went to a christian retreat and during that retreat I had a vision of my wife sitting on the beach smiling. I knew at that time she was OK and that I could continue with my life. I removed my ring and have made plans to have it and one of my wife's other rings melted and made into a cross or crucifix.

Even though alot of us have had to endure the loss of the one we thought we would be with forever, each personal experience us different or at least has many differences.
I lost the love of my life almost a year ago. I asked the same question. My decision was to wear my wedding band on my right hand and leave it there. At this point I dint believe ill ever take it off.
