I went out to my garden and my squash plants were dead. i knew they were not
looking good and not producing anymore. Planted 2 more hills out back, one is
looking ok the other not so good but anyhoo decided after picking the tomatoes
that I would go ahead and pull up my squash plants...suprise...squash bugs like
crazy and an ant decided to chow down between my pinky finger and the one next to
it. Latched on like crazy and hurt like crazy but my major shock was the bugs.
Do they live in the soil? I ended up sprinkling some poison granules around where
the plants were hoping to get rid of them. Don't like to use poison but wasn't sure
what to do. Wanted to plant late squash and heard it wasn't too late but with all
those bugs I don't want to waste my time. Know what I mean? Any suggestions on
getting rid of them to be able to plant more squash and will they take over my
tomato plants because they were next to the squash? They are doing good so far so
maybe they don't like tomato plants. Hope not.

I knew the wilt and die syndrome was caused by bugs but I've never been shown the critters and their habitat! This is a superb video on squash bugs! THANKS!!!

Another suprise. The storm just about demolished my tomato plants. Limbs from a tree
out back were laying on top of them. got them off and tried to straighten them back up
and they were so pretty. then I saw those green tomato worms. Awwhhhh!!!!
I have not had problems with them in years. Seems everything is happening now. Grasshoppers, squash bugs, worms, storms...lol...can't seem to win for losing.

Good video, but I thought some type of squash bug was also inside the plant?
I was told another way that works well, but it does take work to keep up with. Take some duct tape to get the eggs from under the leaves of the squash. It's not too sticky, so it doesn't pull the leaf off, but gets the eggs. I don't think I've heard of it, but maybe one of the lint removers that use masking tape may make it easy.
Glad I found this topic (linked from someone's profile), I'll definitely be reading in here. About to put a brick trim around some blueberry bushes today so I can mow around them easier (and for looks).

I think what you are talking about that gets in the stem of the squash plant is called
a "squash borer" or something like that. Not a squash bug but heard the squash bugs get
around the roots and I did not know that. Thought they stayed on the leaves and blooms.
I've got to check my tomato plants and see if I got rid of the worms. they sure are
mean looking.

Red, your green tomatoe (Tomatoe Horned worms) look more evil than they really are and they cannot bite or sting you. Just pick them off but look closely for more and keep an eye on your plants. Tomatoes worms will eat al;l of the foilage in less than 24 hours.

Yeah, I had some one time on some cherry tomato plants on my porch and I
had been told about them from a friend but never saw any before until then.
One day they were healthy, the next nearly stripped.
