I use to have a pen pal there way back in the 1970's fact I wanted to move there, She told me the wages are much lower, and expect much higher food prices. Plus they have a shortage on water. The water system is what is falling from dem skys above and they collect their water from the roof of their homes into a reservoir system.
I would never want to live in the US Virgin Islands. Everything is so expensive there!

A few years ago I stayed near Red Hook at a place called Secret Harbour. Alot of locals came to the beach where I stayed to sunbathe and swim. It's nice and quiet and you can do some so-so snorkelling right off the beach either to the right or left of the cove. The sea turtles are very use to people and you can pretty much hang out right next to them. The driving looks to be pretty hairy so I would be careful.Red hook is where you also catch the ferry to St. John, I can't remeber the name of the only main town but the shopping and food is better. There's a lady right there by the park who has some awesome street food. I rented a boat for the day and snorkled By Lovango(love and go)island, Whistling Caye, and went over to Little Watermelon Caye as well as other places. You can hike down to Honey moon caye from town on a beuatiful path and hang out on the beach and snorkell there but it's a popular spot.Anther thing I noticed people doing was just crab a taxi and have them bring them to one of the many coves and drop them off. When your done there have them pic you up. Lots of cool places to hiker over there to The sugar mill at the Anna Berg trail is nice. (I think thats her name). Generally if you go to the other islands you stop in St. Johns first to go through customs and immigration. Punta Gorda is a cool place to visit too.I spent no time in Chartlotte-Amali I try to avoid where the cruise ships dock and they do flock to St. Johns when they come in so I avoid the popular spots when they are in port. I hope you enjoy your stay it is beautiful there.
