That has more to do with the societies that have those religions being successful as conquerors than any inherent quality to the religion. All religions don't want you to be exposed to other religions. That brings outside thought and views in. Religions can't survive that, if they want to remain pure to themselves. For example, once people start to question the premise that the Earth is not 6,000 years old, then all of the Christian religion's premise's comes into question. Best not to ask any questions, and the best way to ensure that is to not be exposed to new ideas or thoughts.

As you said...those two are not religions but philosophies...as are Buddhism and Hinduism You ask if the "premise is that weak..." Indeed, nothing based on a negative or false statement will ever be strong.

It's not so much that the two religions have ridden on the coattails of sociieties it's the fact that they have driven these societies to conquor in their name. the religions have been a driving force in the past and altho they have been less blatant about it in recent times it still is a motivation in politics. The U.S. is involved in multiple wars due to politics that are endorsed by the religions. Does this scare anyone? both religions have fringe elements who want to bring about total war to bring about the stated end of the world to hasten the comming of their gods return.

It's unfortunate that christians have a mental block when it comes to their own history. They all have this "that was then and this is now" mentality. They all forget about the series of events through out history that should be a warning to what can and has happened when you give these leaders true power. Everything from the dark ages to the inquisition to the burning of witches. Power has been given and stripped (albeit not completely until recently) several times over. What's frightening is that the religious leaders are counting on this short term memory in order to seize control once again. "But that was then and this is now and that would never happen again......right?"

The real culprit is poverty and those who would use the tool of religion in what ever form, to convince those in despair that someone else is to blame. If Christianity has the illusion of being more peaceful, it is only because relatively wealthy people don't strap bombs to their chest. They don't feel the compelling need to.

BTW both are pit vipers (same family)

I disagree with you while both religiobs worship a higher being or entity. Niether religion will say god and allah are one on the same if that is the case there would be less of a reason for a holy war. And christinanty is only big cause of the many different sects that call themselves christians. It like saying pitbulls account for all the dogs that attck humans when that is not true so let get facts straight so there are some similarities but not enough facts the make a bold statemeny that parrellel each other.
