For the past several months, I've had a raccoon getting into my garden and pretty much trashing it from time to time. I bought a Havahart live trap and caught him once, but he about trashed the trap and escaped. I can't shoot him because I live in a residential area and CA has some pretty strict laws. He comes in late at night and I'm thinking that once my fall crop is mature, he will have a great time at my expense. Any ideas?

we get a whole family of big fat racoons every night begging for food

where we live in the hills way out past the incorporated city limits

they look like a whole band of year round masked trick or treaters

and we also had Mama & her 2 baby deer stop by and they are rather thin

a young white tailed buck came by ...i love them & feed them as much as i can

mostly i feed the the deer cause they are thin & need to gain weight for the winter

but the raccoons are much fatter, more hardy and resourceful & can really get mean

so i would suggest continuing with the trap , only fix it much sturdier & resilient ,

cause they are able to get into or out of most anything

with their little very capable ambidextrous houdini hands

or call animal control or an animal rescue facility as last resort

I have a good dog, and he has chased that coon off more than once. The leg hold traps in the videos are Illegal here but I wish I had a couple anyway. Thanks for the input, I'll just have to strengthen the trap I have and stake it down well and hope for the best.

barrel 1/3 full of water next to picnic table, 18" 2x4 extending over the barrel and just behind the balance point. Coon walks out 2x4 (mustard sardines awesome, cat food, marshmallow), tilts and trapped in the barrel. It doesn't drown and can't get out if the 2x4 is short enough.

In Ky it's OK so I trap and shoot them. I have some "Duke" dog proof cuff traps, only a coon can trip it. I did have one tear his way right out of a heavy havaheart but did get 2 in a heavier trap.

Coons share at least. They left me 3 ears corn out of 8 rows. My other corn crop where I can't see it, about 40x60' the crows ate the seeds soon as they sprouted and left nothing. Pound of hard to get Red Flint.

Bones, email me on DH, and I will tell what you can do to get rid of the coons.

Thanks Satin, but I finally took care of it the only surefire way I knew. I don't think I woke up any neighbors. Jeez, they sure are destructive little buggers.
