Poem: "the lesson of the moth," by Don Marquis from The Best of Don Marquis (Doubleday).
the lesson of the moth

i was talking to a moth
the other evening
he was trying to break into
an electric light bulb
and fry himself on the wires
why do you fellows
pull this stunt i asked him
because it is the conventional
thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered
candle instead of an electric
light bulb you would
now be a small unsightly cinder
have you no sense
plenty of it he answered
but at times we get tired
of using it
we get bored with the routine
and crave beauty
and excitement
fire is beautiful
and we know that if we get
too close it will kill us
but what does that matter
it is better to be happy
for a moment
and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time
and be bored all the while
so we wad all our life up
into one little roll
and then we shoot the roll
that is what life is for
it is better to be a part of beauty
for one instant and then cease to
exist than to exist forever
and never be a part of beauty
our attitude toward life
is come easy go easy
we are like human beings
used to be before they became
too civilized to enjoy themselves
and before i could argue him
out of his philosophy
he went and immolated himself
on a patent cigar lighter
i do not agree with him
myself i would rather have
half the happiness and twice
the longevity
but at the same time i wish
there was something i wanted
as badly as he wanted to fry himself

One of my favorites kinda sad tho.... What are ours?

Beware O' Bonie Ann

By robert Burns written in 1789

Ye gallants bright, I rede you right,
Beware o' bonie Ann;
Her comely face sae fu' o' grace,
Your heart she will trepan:
Her een sae bright, like stars by night,
Her skin sae like the swan;
Sae jimply lac'd her genty waist,
That sweetly ye might span.

Youth, Grace, and Love attendant move,
And pleasure leads the van:
In a' their charms, and conquering arms,
They wait on bonie Ann.
The captive bands may chain the hands,
But love enslaves the man:
Ye gallants braw, I rede you a',
Beware o' bonie Ann!

ENDLESS

Deceptive sunlight arises
On chilled air blows, creeping in
Sweeping winds blow discreetly
My eyes awaken, morning again

Not stirred by daybreak
I struggle to rise
No desire to seek this
More hours of sighs

The horizon I'm staring
True visions I seek
A heart's need of passion
Beyond grasp of the meek

Long minutes so endless
The passing of time so slow
Eternity forever waiting
A stirring within my soul

Yet out there is waiting
As time does elapse
Another one still reaching
Yet too far, beyond grasp

Despair of this waiting
Hope glistening still
Never end to the searching
For true passion is real

The light in the candle
A flame romantic , so bright
Forever breaks the darkness
As day goes to night

So peer out , keep seeking
Life's companion for you
Out in this world unforgiving
They too, search for you

A quest that once ends
Harmony within, serenity, bliss
Soulmates closely entwined
Fates sealed with one burning kiss

Enjoy The Journey

A far away sunset
A cloudless moon
A night of crickets
A dawn too soon

These things all pass
In a life of days
We watch each in awe
Through a mindless haze

To slow the time
Reduce this pace
Enjoy more passings
Of time and place

I wish this to my friends
To slow what we do
More time to enjoy
Precious things like you

What Makes Me Ignorant?

What makes me ignorant,
Is it my skin, my speech, my tongue?
Why does it matter were I was born
And whom I was raised with
Why do you seek to find relevance to my being,
Can’t it be enough that I am just like you?
Can’t an other person be just like you,
And not be you?
Or do you fear that I am better then you!
I am not White, Black or Asian, but if I was
Then that too would have been your excuse
Then why does it have to be this way?
That when I walk the streets besides you
You turn or take the an other way
That when you see me speak it can’t be true
Or write and you criticize that too
Can’t you see that we are all the same
But also so different. . .
That the shirt you ware is not for all to ware
Or the tone you speak understood by all!
Then just be patient and watch carefully
Because even from me you will see
A light of its own magnificence

It is sweet and right to die for your country. Wilfred Owen really came through with this work and is certainly one of my favorites. Good man. However my all time favorite would have to be Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven. If you couldn't guess by my screen name lol.

Final Good Bye...

the food isnt good mom
the weather is damp and cold
the ground is really wet mom
soaked with human blood

i have a bullet in my leg mom
but it doesnt hurt so much
when an orphan boy crawls by
without a leg or crutch

remember when i was small mom?
i sat upon your knee
you said i'd be a man someday
and fight for victory

here i am a man mom
just like you said i'd be
fighting for my country
and as proud as i can be

they are coming down the hill mom
a couple hundred strong
no matter how we fight or pray
we cant hold off for long

tell dad hes not to cry mom
you and dad be brave
when they bring my body back
put old glory on my grave

i wish i could see you mom
just once before i die
just to say i love you
before i say good bye

Dear Madam ,

Iam a soldier and my speech is rough and plain . Iam not used to writing and I hate to bring you pain . But I promised him that I would write to you and he thought it might be so if the letter was written by a friend then perhaps it would ease the blow . So I will tell you the truth and there is nothing I will hide and please forgive me for rough soldier words while I tell you how he died .
It was in the mortal battle and it rained shot and shell . I was standing right beside him when I saw him when he fell . So I took him in my arms and laid him on the grass . It was going against orders but they thought let it pass. Twas a minie ball that struck him and it entered at his side . We did not think it fatal till this morning when he died .
I carved him out a headboard as skillful as I could and if you like I will tell you where it stood . I will send you back his bible , his hymn book , and his cap he used to wear and a lock I cut the night before of his bright curly hair . I will keep the belt that he was wearing he told me so to do . It has a hole upon the side just were the ball went through .
So now I have done his bidding and there is nothing more to tell but I will always mourn with you the boy we loved so well .

Langston Hughes' Mother to Son

Well, son, I'll tell you: Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor --Bare. But all the time I'se been a-climbin' on, And reachin' landin's, And turnin' corners, And sometimes goin' in the dark Where there ain't been no light. So boy, don't you turn back. Don't you set down on the steps 'Cause you finds it's kinder hard. Don't you fall now --For I'se still goin', honey, I'se still climbin', And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

The Second Coming

TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of i{Spiritus Mundi}
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at laSt,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Tonight I Can Write

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
Write, for example, 'The night is starry
and the stars are blue and shiver in the distance.'
The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.
Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.
Through nights like this one I held her in my arms.
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.
She loved me, sometimes I loved her too.
How could one not have loved her great still eyes.
Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.
To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.
What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is starry and she is not with me.
This is all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.
My sight tries to find her as though to bring her closer.
My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.
The same night whitening the same trees.
We, of that time, are no longer the same.
I no longer love her, that's certain, but how I loved her.
My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.
Another's. She will be another's. As she was before my kisses.
Her voice, her bright body. Her infinite eyes.
I no longer love her, that's certain, but maybe I love her.
Love is so short, forgetting is so long.
Because through nights like this one I held her in my arms
my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.
Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer
and these the last verses that I write for her.

I write everyday.... As I walked along under hazel skies a beauty took me by surprise... Just up ahead she stood looking, calling, motioning me. Underneath that willow tree... As I drew near to my eyes became clear, the beauty was not to be. Fore it was only my mind playing tricks on me. All that stood motioning me was that lone willow tree.... Wrote that a month ago

Quote from collegedude_23:
Everything by Hafiz, and William Wordsworth ("I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud").

William Wordsworth- "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud"

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
in such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
what wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils

Hafiz- "My Sweet, Crushed Angel"

You have not danced so badly, my dear,
Trying to hold hands with the Beautiful One.

You have waltzed with great style,
My sweet, crushed angel,
To have ever neared God's heart at all.

Our Partner is notoriously difficult to follow,
And even His best musicians are not always easy
To hear.

So what if the music has stopped for a while.

So what
If the price of admission to the Divine
Is out of reach tonight.

So what, my dear,
If you do not have the ante to gamble for Real Love.

The mind and the body are famous
For holding the heart ransom,

But Hafiz knows the Beloved's eternal habits.

Have patience,

For He will not be able to resist your longing
For Long.

You have not danced so badly, my dear,
Trying to kiss the Beautiful One.

You have actually waltzed with tremendous style,
O my sweet,
O my sweet crushed angel.

This one has been my favorite for years

After a while victoria schoftsall

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn

Thank you for the look I love Erotica and writing poetry and stories of sexual first. The thoughts from our minds are still not taxable, LOL

Here is one I wrote a few weeks ago, I hope you like it, I enjoyed writing it.
................................................
Walking a tropical, majestic beach on a warm summer night.
I pass by a getaway bungalow, someone catches my sight.
A Victorian Silhouette of a women attracted my eyes.
She has enticing Curves, flowing hair and womanly thighs.
As she steps into view where the light shows her best.
I see her button down shirt tied, soft cleavage of Breast.
As she starts down the stairs of her bungalow suite.
I walk towards this Beauty of a women I desire to meet.
Her face in view now her eyes draw me in.
I introduce myself with a devilish, boyish grin.
We chatted and laughed, headed out for a drink.
Then by the end of the night what do you think?
Of course we made passionate love in her shack.
We had so much fun the next day, she beckoned me back.
We’ve hooked together now over  many years for a day.
The images of those times in our minds locked away!

Smile. Peter E.

LIFE DOESN’T FRIGHTEN ME

By: Maya Angelou

Shadows on the wall
Noises down the hall
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Bad dogs barking loud
Big ghosts in a cloud
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Mean old Mother Goose
Lions on the loose
They don't frighten me at all
Dragons breathing flame
On my counterpane
That doesn't frighten me at all.
I go boo
Make them shoo
I make fun
Way they run
I won't cry
So they fly
I just smile
They go wild
Life doesn't frighten me at all.
Tough guys fight
All alone at night
Life doesn't frighten me at all.
Panthers in the park
Strangers in the dark
No, they don't frighten me at all.
That new classroom where
Boys all pull my hair
(Kissy little girls
With their hair in curls)
They don't frighten me at all.
Don't show me frogs and snakes
And listen for my scream,
If I'm afraid at all
It's only in my dreams.
I've got a magic charm
That I keep up my sleeve
I can walk the ocean floor
And never have to breathe.
Life doesn't frighten me at all
Not at all
Not at all.
Life doesn't frighten me at all

The Lady of Shallot by Lord Alfred Tennyson

On either side the river lie
Long fields of barley and of rye,
That clothe the wold and meet the sky;
And thro' the field the road runs by
To many-tower'd Camelot;
And up and down the people go,
Gazing where the lilies blow
Round an island there below,
The island of Shalott.
Willows whiten, aspens quiver,
Little breezes dusk and shiver
Thro' the wave that runs for ever
By the island in the river
Flowing down to Camelot.
Four gray walls, and four gray towers,
Overlook a space of flowers,
And the silent isle imbowers
The Lady of Shalott.
By the margin, willow-veil'd
Slide the heavy barges trail'd
By slow horses; and unhail'd
The shallop flitteth silken-sail'd
Skimming down to Camelot:
But who hath seen her wave her hand?
Or at the casement seen her stand?
Or is she known in all the land,
The Lady of Shalott?
Only reapers, reaping early
In among the bearded barley,
Hear a song that echoes cheerly
From the river winding clearly,
Down to tower'd Camelot:
And by the moon the reaper weary,
Piling sheaves in uplands airy,
Listening, whispers "'Tis the fairy
Lady of Shalott".
There she weaves by night and day
A magic web with colours gay.
She has heard a whisper say,
A curse is on her if she stay
To look down to Camelot.
She knows not what the 'curse' may be,
And so she weaveth steadily,
And little other care hath she,
The Lady of Shalott.
And moving thro' a mirror clear
That hangs before her all the year,
Shadows of the world appear.
There she sees the highway near
Winding down to Camelot:
There the river eddy whirls,
And there the surly village-churls,
And the red cloaks of market girls,
Pass onward from Shalott.
Sometimes a troop of damsels glad,
An abbot on an ambling pad,
Sometimes a curly shepherd-lad,
Or long-hair'd page in crimson clad,
Goes by to tower'd Camelot;
And sometimes thro' the mirror blue
The knights come riding two and two:
She hath no loyal knight and true,
The Lady of Shalott.
But in her web she still delights
To weave the mirror's magic sights,
For often thro' the silent nights
A funeral, with plumes and lights,
And music, went to Camelot:
Or when the moon was overhead,
Came two young lovers lately wed;
"I am half-sick of shadows," said
The Lady of Shalott.
A bow-shot from her bower-eaves,
He rode between the barley sheaves,
The sun came dazzling thro' the leaves,
And flamed upon the brazen greaves
Of bold Sir Lancelot.
A redcross knight for ever kneel'd
To a lady in his shield,
That sparkled on the yellow field,
Beside remote Shalott.
The gemmy bridle glitter'd free,
Like to some branch of stars we see
Hung in the golden Galaxy.
The bridle bells rang merrily
As he rode down to Camelot:
And from his blazon'd baldric slung
A mighty silver bugle hung,
And as he rode his armour rung,
Beside remote Shalott.
All in the blue unclouded weather
Thick-jewell'd shone the saddle-leather,
The helmet and the helmet-feather
Burn'd like one burning flame together,
As he rode down to Camelot.
As often thro' the purple night,
Below the starry clusters bright,
Some bearded meteor, trailing light,
Moves over still Shalott.
His broad clear brow in sunlight glow'd;
On burnish'd hooves his war-horse trode;
From underneath his helmet flow'd
His coal-black curls as on he rode,
As he rode down to Camelot.
From the bank and from the river
He flashed into the crystal mirror,
"Tirra lirra," by the river
Sang Sir Lancelot.
She left the web, she left the loom;
She made three paces thro' the room,
She saw the water-lily bloom,
She saw the helmet and the plume,
She look'd down to Camelot.
Out flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror crack'd from side to side;
"The curse is come upon me," cried
The Lady of Shalott.
In the stormy east-wind straining,
The pale yellow woods were waning,
The broad stream in his banks complaining,
Heavily the low sky raining
Over tower'd Camelot;
Down she came and found a boat
Beneath a willow left afloat,
And round about the prow she wrote
'The Lady of Shalott.'
And down the river's dim expanse--
Like some bold seër in a trance,
Seeing all his own mischance--
With a glassy countenance
Did she look to Camelot.
And at the closing of the day
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott.
Lying, robed in snowy white
That loosely flew to left and right--
The leaves upon her falling light--
Thro' the noises of the night
She floated down to Camelot;
And as the boat-head wound along
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her singing her last song,
The Lady of Shalott.
Heard a carol, mournful, holy,
Chanted loudly, chanted lowly,
Till her blood was frozen slowly,
And her eyes were darken'd wholly,
Turn'd to tower'd Camelot;
For ere she reach'd upon the tide
The first house by the water-side,
Singing in her song she died,
The Lady of Shalott.
Under tower and balcony,
By garden-wall and gallery,
A gleaming shape she floated by,
Dead-pale between the houses high,
Silent into Camelot.
Out upon the wharfs they came,
Knight and burgher, lord and dame,
And round the prow they read her name,
'The Lady of Shalott'
Who is this? and what is here?
And in the lighted palace near
Died the sound of royal cheer;
And they cross'd themselves for fear,
All the knights at Camelot:
But Lancelot mused a little space;
He said, "She has a lovely face;
God in his mercy lend her grace,
The Lady of Shalott".

I think

By tonie

I think to my self, sitting out side
watching all the birds, signing all into a chrous
of love,I think,I think,of what beauty surrounds me,
I think I thinkto myself of what a joy it is to be free
of what life has to bring.I think I think to sit
here and breath, and just take in the scerny all round me
I think I think, what a beautiful smell from the rose
garden,for every one to enjoy.
I think I think as im sitting here,I thank god im alive
to see all its beauty, thats upon me and knowing
its all about love I think I think

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

Taken At The Flood

There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.

William Shakespeare, in "Julius Caesar"

Thankfulness

Many favours which God giveth us ravel out for want of hemming, through our own unthankfulness;
for though prayer purchaseth blessings, giving praise doth keep the quiet possession of them.

Bound No'th Blues
by Langston Hughes

Goin’ down the road, Lawd,
Goin’ down the road.
Down the road, Lawd,
Way, way down the road.
Got to find somebody
To help me carry this load.

Road’s in front o’ me,
Nothin’ to do but walk.
Road’s in front of me,
Walk…an’ walk…an’ walk.
I’d like to meet a good friend
To come along an’ talk.

Hates to be lonely,
Lawd, I hates to be sad.
Says I hates to be lonely,
Hates to be lonely an’ sad,
But ever friend you finds seems
Like they try to do you bad.

Road, road, road, O!
Road, road…road…road, road!
Road, road, road, O!
On the no’thern road.
These Mississippi towns ain’t
Fit fer a hoppin’ toad.
