I work in a retail store that sells lots of junk that people buy just to decorate their homes with to celebrate the birth of Jesus... Yet they are hanging all kinds of weird things on their christmas tree like mini BBQ grills.. I have to bite my tongue every time I ring up a customer at the register and they tell me "happy holidays".

Although their intentions are good I can't help to find great enjoyment in answering them with "Happy Atheism".

I have a wreath that gets sort of into the "spirit". Regular wreath crowned
with the Odal rune, or Odin's rune.

Truth be told, the cheerfulness of the lights on houses kinda make me happy.. At least I know not to waste my money on any of it though.

Yeah with everyone else hanging stuff on their homes, all you have to do is look at it.

if these "christians" really celebrated the birth of christ they would not decorate their house with lights, put reindeer on their lawn, have pictures of Santa all over the place and shop for gifts for their family. Maybe they should read their bible again, I don't think it says anything about santa claus. I m atheist, I do celebrate santa claus not jesus christ. I think the tree is a pagan belief. Boy, christians are confused. Hey OP, they do put up that little manger in the corner, if you look behind the santa claus and reindeer...hehe

The problem with being confused is quite big: It leads to ignorance. As we all know, ignorance is not only bold and insolent but extremely dangerous.

I celebrate the holiday as it has always been intended. A celebration of this time of year with your loved ones and family. The fact that Christians took over the holiday and called it their own does not make it a religious holiday for me.

I agree with you. I still celebrate my family and friends. If you want to stirr things up, tell a bunch of christians they stole the holiday. Round here you better have a path to the exit or a lot of bandaids.

8 years ago I bought several strings of outdoor lights and I hung them around the end of my carport. I ran the cord back to an outside electrical outlet and plugged the light string into a timer. Took about two hours to set the whole thing up. The next morning I got up to go to work. Went out to the carport and guess what? Some damned thief came by and sticky fingered my lights and timer. They were gone! Haven't hung up a light since!

I am the black sheep...proudly though. My mom died in '06, my dad is back in Pittsburgh living with my brother, my older daughter hates me (she's now Jahova Witness and married) and my youngest daughter is in Ohio with her sperm-donors mother. So I am here all by my lonesome.

By "black sheep" I meant he is a man of the cloth....Gee, the only believer in an Atheist family.

I'm the opposite...whole family are believers, I don't think they even know I'm not (I didn't tell them but have told a few who might have). I am proud of who and what I am but just don't think it's worth the headache at this point. Would only give them one more thing to judge (LOL) and/or critisize me for.

What some Christians fail to realize is Jesus wasn't actually born on December 25th. He was actually born in the summer. His birthday was moved to coincide with the traditional pagan holiday that celebrated the winter solstice with lit fires and slaughtered goats. Also, the image of Santa that everyone is familiar with was created by Coca Cola.
