Yes, it is good. It is always better to learn about things. Options can be a great way to make money faster that if you owned the stock, but you can get burned really fast, too. If you do options, keep a constant eye on them. Before you know it, you can either make a lot of money or lose a lot of money. Since you are playing with the pros, odds are you will lose unless you get the timing right and, in this market, it is more luck than anything. If you play options, start out small.

Options are complicated animals, and are not for inexperienced traders. The option price moves so fast, that your bet is a snapshot in time. Your profit could be there for 5 minutes or less. After that, the implied volatility looses momentum. Options are designed to expire worthless on their expiration date. If you have not closed your position before the x date, all the money is gone. Buying a call or a put fits this scenario. Selling puts or calls is super dangerous to new users, but can be used strategically to make a trade cheaper or to be put in to a stock at a lower price. Lower price because you get the money for selling the right to someone to make u buy 100 shares per options contract.

You should spend some time learning how to read charts. Candle stick charts and point and figure charts. Learn supports and resistance. If you know the range a stock will move, on news or technicals. There is a lot more to it. I look forward to any further discussions on the subject.

Can`t afford them but hate not sticking with apple stock. Really not happy with the facebook and zynga turn out. About broke me. Won`t send more money in. Need that to buy guns. Nice thought but won`t do it. Wish I would have before the prices went up though.

I concur with this. I'm going to my Money Management advisor about a recent investment i've made and consider either going to the Money Market or have the rates that the bank offer. Still contemplating.......gamer

It is always a good idea to learn new things in life. Learning about puts and calls will add to your knowledge and that's all in my opinion.

There are other ways to make money in the market. There is regular stock market where leverage isn't as bad as options. Trading options is just like being in the casino and playing machine. You bet on a share to be at certain price at certain time and you have to be right. I really call that gambling.

For me investing or day trading is an art that takes years of education and years of experience to reach success. As an example, it took me 4 years of hitting the books and trading school to educate myself about Forex Market"foreign exchange" to get to an understanding of all the aspects of trading. Psychology and discipline are the reasons for your success in the stock, options, currency market, and commodities. Learning how to analyze the market technically is a way of making an educated judgement of where the market is heading.

Then it comes to Risk Reward & Money Management. Money management in Forex trading is the term given to describe the various aspects of managing your risk and reward on every trade you make. If you don’t fully understand the implications of money management as well as how to actually implement money management techniques, you have a very slim chance of becoming a consistently profitable trader.

About Risk Rewards, Risk reward is the most important aspect to managing your money in the markets. However, many traders do not completely grasp how to fully take advantage of the power of risk reward. Every trader in the market wants to maximize their reward and minimize their risks. This is the basic building block to becoming a consistently profitable trader.

You must decide if option trading is suitable for your financial situation and investment objective. If you are up for self-education a book I'd recommend is "Options as a Strategic Investment" by Lawrence G. McMillan. Also, the Chicago Board Options Exchange has a great website that also provides tutorials w/a help line. Good Luck Trading!!!!

I was an former Natural Gas Option Trader at the New York Mercantile Exchange. And my advice is that in order to be succesfull in the options market you need

1-To understand how to trade spreads with them. This is very crucial. There's like a million combination posible when you use the spreads in options.

2-Never buy options. 80% of all options expires worthless, so if you sell options, your chance to make money is 80%.

Learn how to sell calls and puts at the same times, how to use the beta and theta, condors and butterflies on the sell side always..

Sorry for my spelling, im using my mobil.

The simple point of the matter is that you must start with money to make money.

I would say if you have anything less than $25,000, then the market is not for you. You become the necessary prey for the predators. I have learned this twice.

If you have $25,000, then you can split that up and invest in small caps and the such. As other posters have said you need to study and follow the market, whether Forex, Options, whatever. You need to follow a practice investment account for a year.

Open a practice account on Fool.com

You need to have the gumption of buying Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan or Citi and sit on these for a years, say with $10,000. You will make a profit while you loose the other $15,000 playing around.

The market is rebounding now. This is a great time to begin making money.

Again, you need money - or someone's else - to make money.
