I was stationed in S. Korea for a little more than a year. I worked in a mail terminal. We delivered mail to all of the American Army Post Offices, so I was able to see the entire country.
The older generation loved us, yet the younger generation hated us being there.
The good thing was having anything made.
If you've never been to S. Korea, I must warn you. When you first get off the plane there is a very odd smell. But you will soon get accustomed to it and not even notice it.
Also watch out for "Bar Wh*res" Very attractive young Korean women will flirt with American GIs and get him to buy her drinks. She will order alcoholic beverages but what the guy does not know is that her drink contains no alcohol. But of course his does. When she has pretty much drained the poor guy of all his cash, she moves on to the next victim. Oh and the "Bar Wh*res" work for the bar.

I was stationed on the DMZ in the R.O.K. in the U.S.Army back in 1981-82. I was 17 1/2 years old at the time and it was one of the most interesting/funnest times of my life.
Long story,short... Off duty I DJ'd(Flipped Records/vinyl) in what was then known as the Paradise Club;got all my booze for free(yep,I was a lush...LOL!)..I did'nt mingle with the hired help girls much...Had lots of working, girl, friends though. Played lotsa Pool & got out quit often to see the sights...whether by bus or a military road march/duty locations. Thje locals in the Villes (Villages) were pretty cool people..I was invited to dinners quite a lot from different families and such. I am still hooked to this day on Kimchi-side dish(Fermented spicy cabbage), Top Ramen noodles mixed with a egg dropped in while boiling...cut up hot dog pieces and a lil cheddar cheese. Mmmm...good stuff. & yeppirs...I can use chop sticks with the best of em...LOL! learned a lot over there...not enough time or room on this page to list it all.
*Cool Topic BTW

Been there twice. Bring extra bag to bring home all the knock off stuff like coach purses ect... I have a tailor there in Osan, Bobby Qwang. He made my X at the time a custom leather coat. You will pick out the fabric. Great place food is great, don't ask for kagoogie because it's dog. Lastly the SoJu will sneak up on you so go easy on it.

yes that always amuses me, its fairly well agreed by most scholars that if the US withdrew it's support of SK, NK would sweep in and absorb SK in a matter of days.
