You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an hooded man with a big knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Colt government model 1911A1 .45 ACP pistol. You are an expert shot. You have to make a decision quickly. What do you do? If you are a Democrat or Liberal you might do any or all of the following: 1. Wonder what he wants and what you can do to help him. 2. Try to decide if he looks poor or oppressed. 3. Ask yourself if you have ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? 4. Wonder if you and your family could we run away. 5. Consider what your Left-wing liberal frineds might think. 6. Wonder if you could I possibly knock the knife out of his hand? 7. Ask yourself what Michael Moore or Whoopee Goldberg might think or do. 8. Wonder what the damage to your reputation might be if you defend yourself and family. 9. Wonder why you are carrying a loaded gun without any safety locks and consider what kind of message it might send to society as a whole. 10. Wonder if it is possible he'd be happy with just killing you or is your family in danger, too? 11. Wonder if he wants to kill you, just wound you, or is he just trying to make a point? 12. Wonder if you should let him start stabbng you and hope he leaves your family alone. 13. Take time to study the situation and try to come up with a compassionate solution. 14. Quickly donate money or demand the government raise taxes to help people like this so they won't have to do this kind of thing. 15. Wonder where a cop is when you need him and do you have time to call 911? If you are Conservative, an Independent, a Libertarian, or a Tea Partier you would answer with: "BANG!" If you really wanted to be sure you would answer with something like: "BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! ... Click ... sounds of a magazine change ... BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click." Your daughter might remark, "Nice group, Daddy! Were those hollow points?". Your son might ask, "Can I shoot the next one?". IF someone has the knife out already and is attacking from 25 feet or less, you are correct. He will likely cut you beofre you can react. That is a known fact in all defensive training. The only solution is to either retreat to gain time to draw and use your weapon of fend the attacker off in some other way to gan time to do somehing similar. Very few can draw and fire in 2 seconds or less unless they are using a "ready" carry meaning round chambered, safety on, and they are in a position to actually get the darned thing out of it's hiding place quickly. A few can do it, not many. Aiming isn't a big issue for a trained shooter because he will already have learned and established muscle memory that brings the weapon to bear. Hitting something at close range is as easy as pointing your finger, something you have done all your life and never miss with. Practice is the key to using the weapon effectively. A very clear knowledge of the laws that govern it's use is just as important. It is also important to remember that like OJ Simpson, you might win in criminal court, but civil court can be another matter. As quickly as you shoot a guy swinging an axe at his wifes head to save her life as she is laying there helpless, the pair can later contend in civil court as they take everything you own that he was trying to kill the snake in the grass that was about to bite her. It is important to be trained, careful, and responsible. Regardless of what happens, there are always consequences and some level of risk.
