So Where Am I Gonna Pick Her Up?
by kpthatsme at 9/14/2016 5:14:33 PM
So the Cubs are set to clinch their division. Probably tomorrow night, here at home, which under normal circumstances, would be great. My dilemma - my 80 year old mother works for the Cubs. The Cubs clinch, pandemonium ensues, tens of thousands of people empty into the streets surrounding Wrigley. And that's not to mention the bars that also empty out into the streets. The streets will be closed for who knows how long.
On a normal night it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get to her. I usually meet her in front of a souvenir store across the street from Wrigley. There are a number of policemen there that she has (with a little help with some bakery from me)befriended and they keep an eye on her. This will not be an option tomorrow night. I won't be able to get that close to the park.
I have it narrowed down to 3 options. She has 2 friends that live in the area. I told her to go home with either of them and when it dies down, I'll get to her or head west on her own and I'll meet her at our favorite pizza joint. Either option has her walking about a mile. I don't like seeing her walk that far but there's not a whole lot of choice at this point.
My son has offered his assistance in what he jokingly calls an "extraction". He'll bring my granddaughter to me and he and his girlfriend will "go in". One in the car and one on foot. The one in the car will wait at a designated spot. The other will get to her on foot and bring her in.
What a real royal pain in my a$$! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the Cubs. We've been waiting a very long time. And I also know there are far worse problems in this world than my little dilemma but what a royal pain in my a$$!
