Have you ever looked back into your familys history
by sillylaugher61 at 6/4/2017 11:06:39 AM

and uncovered something that you didn't know.
My late grandmother was a jurist in a robbery/murder case in 1958. They found the suspect GUILTY. He was later executed.
Sad note the killer only got .14 cents.

yep - my family is related to George Gipp, who was wrongfully accused of fathering a child. Body was exhumed - it was a big mess. I knew we were related but was unaware of the accusations.

My Grandad went to Colorado to mine for gold. That didn't work out, so he joined a crew that was installing a scenic elevator at Royal Gorge. That, was Otis Elevator. He then went to New York City as a repairman for Otis. They were replacing a 12 ton motor at the top of the shaft, he was in the pit at the bottom of the shaft. The chain broke, and the motor fell 10 stories, and he was killed instantly. My guess, if anyone yelled at the moment the chain broke, he may have had enough time to look up before it hit him.

My sister did the ancestry thing. Found out my grandmother who always said she was royalty really was way back to the roman era and up. She was Dutch. Her husband my granddad was German and danish ( pretty much the same from where he was from) and has claims to Eric the red. His parents fled Germany understandably. Now my moms side. We are related the black Charlie Harris. So named because he was black haired Native American gangster. We remember when my mom went back to Illinois and spit in his face because he murdered her favorite cousin. Ya. Royalty, nazi avoiding refugees and gangster/bootlegging hillbillies.

what is odd is that the judge allowed the press to take pictures inside the courtroom. plus the jury and the accused. Never happen today.

My mom's father when he came over from Italy invented the phrase Wazza mara you? This is another example of an Italian pronunciation of an English phrase: “What’s the matter with you?” (or rather, “Qual è il problema?” in Italian). Their American friends always wondered who this “Mara” was that all the Italians kept referring to!...kidding he was an opera singer who tried to teach me but instead my, mom said to my grandfather " pa we're in America, they speak English here"...I coulda been a contender...yea right...Fuhgeddaboudit

My grandfather who's English was in the invasion of Normandy and survived. He was also involved in the building of the Queen Mary ocean liner which is still docked in Long Beach California and I've been on a few times.
