BY DANIEL MARKS
Ever since the NBA raised its minimum age limit from 18 to 19 years old in 2006, the one-and-done phenomenon has taken off. Since players can no longer jump right from high school to the pros, many elite basketball programs are now mere checkpoints for top players on their way to the NBA. In the last few years, no program has personified this one-and-done phenomenon more than the University of Kentucky.
Since John Calipari took over the program in 2009, 10 Wildcats have only spent one year on campus during his four seasons there. This includes John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins andAnthony Davis. Coach Cal recruits players with the expectation — both from the player’s standpoint and his standpoint — that they will likely only be in Lexington for one season. Sometimes this philosophy pays off as it did with a national championship in 2012, and sometimes, like this past season, it does not. However, no matter the results, with six McDonald’s All-Americans heading to campus next season, Calipari’s philosophy is not changing any time soon. That is what makes the case of Julius Mays so unique.
See Mays, Kentucky’s elder statesmen this season at 23 years old, was also a one-and-done for the program, but his path to Kentucky was much longer than the one his freshmen teammates took. Coming out of high school, Mays was a lightly-recruited shooting guard out of Marion, Indiana who chose to attend North Carolina State over offers from Xavier, Western Michigan and Ball State.
After two disappointing seasons in Raleigh, he transferred to Wright State, a mid-major school in the Horizon League. Per NCAA transfer rules, Mays had to sit out his first season at Wright State before becoming eligible during the 2011-12 season. During that year, he averaged 14.1 points before deciding to transfer again after the season.
Even as his team’s leading scorer, Coach Cal was not interested in Mays initially despite losing his top six scorers from the 2012 national title team. Graduate transfers were not part of the way he put his teams together, and he wasn’t really intrigued by Mays. Instead, the best recruiter in college basketball had the tables turned on him. Mays recruited Calipari.
“He really wanted to be with us,” Calipari says. “At the time we were talking to him, we didn’t even think he would start for us, and that he would be coming off the bench. We didn’t know what position he would play, and we told him he would likely be in the top eight, but we couldn’t even promise him that and he wanted to come anyway.”
Resting my belief
Kids pro sooner then later
Stay in school longer
I'm outta here ms HH...lol

Good students good mind
One and out players one goal
Money speaks and talks...
Look st cal's record since he arrived a coach coaching future pros and since they can't enter nba now because of age requirement, they nest at KY..what if they get hurt these one and out are not students, cant read and write...is cal going to tutor them if all they know is b ball...now uconn is a different entity...hate, not me ...lol..

Players like students
Take college boards to enter
Who did took their tests
I dont hate, never had hated any athlete even coaching myself but i read and showed proof of what is said of that program... the best of best schools and why students go to great colleges on scholarship is to get a college education first to make something of themselves if they go pro and should their careers end suddenly they still have their education to keep them above water...yes the uneducated can make money but if money is their goal they'll probably spend it unwisely too...but then again should they become pro stay out of trouble because like a lottery winner relatives come out of no where for a bit of that money too or lead them into temptation.

Isn't this Haiku?
It looks more like a cat fight
May the best team win
Jeez you two...it's just a college sport. Does it really matter what the players do with their lives? We all know the B-Ballers are not always Deans list material, and for many it's their only ticket out. If there were shady goings on involving stacking teams with ringers...that would concern me. But the programs are what they are, and as far as we know, these teams all play by the same rules. So lets just let these kids make their own choices, and enjoy their talents tonight in the winner takes all game of their lives.
The land of the free
Where talent can take you far
What a great country

I Hid fifty eggs
Only forty-eight were found.
Who took the last two?
Are they in the grass?
In the flowers, trees or bush?
Taken by a squirrel?
Thinking of you Sorp. Get well soon.

Thankyou the last two weeks been tough for me so thanks who came aboard here to keep this sane silly thread agoing . I want this thread to finish even though those posters askin me to start this thread again are always missed when not in action..always said this was their favorite thread but seen posting elsewhere when they post...but now here 7 years maybe its time for me to view other pastures asap...you may see me posting but my op days are going to be history because i think I'm funny but most don't see me humorous at all when this site needs a lift me upper or do most read what i offer here on this site..i receive enails from posters who like the ones who dislike me but it's like these posters to show my enemies what they write me they can say in the threads i say what's happening to me too but 9 out of 10 times i go on threads even enemies at one tine and offered condolances and get well wishes on haiku or even post on threads supporting them because my respect is still there for someone who only knows me cyber like but in person you would see the goid side of me uf i looked into your eyes starting with sincerity first and a personality that entets a room before the rest of me does. It's funnysoneone knows me best here but wont tell someone else what I'm really about and emails me but maybe they do that just to show my haters a diff side of them staying neutral on this site..I'd like this fan club to show others a bit of me so others can read it on a thread rather then via email to me...I'll always have ny fan club but it's easy to spotiut my haters maibly because what i said here and in this post be so true but again I'm here 7 years now and like i tried to say 7 yrs too long because there are cyber leaders and people threathened by some to where they must post and not post to and thise are the morons I'm talking about and you know who you are...
.you have a guy on here askin for donations for his lady friend simultaneously i gave this poster enough info to deal with hosp she is in to apply for charity care the hospital offers with a timely application yet insults on getting money support looking for nickles and dimes instead of help to pay medical bills reaching catastrophic proportion anytime soon..what bothers me that poster does not give two schitts with his videos for others and i get no credit when i helped to try to offer my advacant skills to help a member here in need so why bother to so esp after i opebed up to say i too have been going through a few events myself and explained this site offers more spiritual then financial support yet that op looks only for nickles and dimes and videos and says put your money where your mouth is, is not the right way to get a point across rather just hope sge progresses healthy from her ordeal. One kast thing many here access this site from several ways and i velive at least 40% here cant view videos esp his videos which include ranting and using his voice as if qe are thinking of ourselves..i for one was thinking of hercabd how i can help and i told ya i helped with providing info i fould via that hospital's web site and that went over his head too bad for that it was noticeably went by everyone but today i sit in my hospital room tryin to recuperate from two surgeries both one week apart and recovery time myself and at least a few qere askin forne more that haven't sorry I'm not on your radar screen...now back to other threads and what seems more important should be spiritual then monetary results for someone needing to syrvive first then receiving monetary from a dating site of survivors of their own lives...the end...

May you heal quickly
Hospitals can be a drag.
Here's to better times.
Sorp-
You and I have had our differences but when it comes down to it--we are human. We feel and we hurt. This site has taught me many things--but most of all it has taught me to not let what other's say or think bother me. I guess you can say--I have grown thick skin.
I shake my head at what some do or say on here. I've never been one to hold grudges or to follow the "in" crowd. I chose to just be me. Love me or hate me--but in reality--most just don't care.
As for the "video man" you are referring to. I find it quite funny how he could start a thread about the sins of homosexuals--but he uses the Lord's name in vain so many times in his videos. I guess the 10 Commandments have less meaning than a few pieces of scripture.
I had nothing but the utmost respect for the hospital staff when my family was in it's crisis mode. I was overcome with the support and genuine caring souls that surrounded both my late husband and daughter in their fights against cancer. Of course, we treated them with respect too.
Hope you are on your way to feeling better.

it's you rub my back
Not until fat lady sings
Contradiction starts
offer spiritual
Not beg us for pocket change
Videos too much
It seems my advice
Meant nothing to his askin
For on pour of dough
People know of her
More for blogs then in this group
So post there not here
Reading him saying
Put your dough where your mouth is
Made me more upset
Thanks heart for your post and explanation...no intent at you but happy this ordeal is coming along but unless requested i dont need threads for myself but others may yet the traditional way is thru spiritual offerings from a site that usually offers that for ones in need...thanks heart
