I have a friend who was driving 70 miles each way for a hair cut, met a MAN on the train who takes the
train 100 miles every two weeks to a barber! Do you have a great hairdresser that you follow from
salon to salon? Tell us how far you go, how much you would pay, or any other story!

How far would I go?
ROTFL, I had a haircut about 10 days ago. You all can see I wear it spiked
OR DID. She has cut it for the past 4 cuts [3 mos] and I told
her to cut it about the grown out length [then I would retouch the color.]
OK how long can a person's hair grow in 3 1/2 weeks?
She cut it about 1/2 inch all over and left me about 1" bangs.
I feel like it will NEVER get grown out!!
I didn't realize it was so short
A GOOD BEAUTICIAN IS HARD TO FIND and KEEP!!
I definitely do think I sure would travel a great distance- or think about it
if not for the $$gas prices.

I hate a hairdresser who does not listen! I am sure you look cool and sexy, just wear a black gauzy sundress
and big earings, and you steal the show! I carry a photo of the cut I want. The last time, it took
FOUR visits to four salons to find someone to do it right, she is at Great Clips. Her 15 dollar cut
was better than the first 50 dollar cut! I pray she stays there!

I go as far as my bathroom...I have been cutting my own hair for over 10 years now. Can't fathom spending ridiculous amounts of money just to have someone cut my hair. Have better ways to spend the $$.

I once drove 4 hours each way to go back to my old hairdresser, but then found
one in my neighborhood, was good for about 3 years, then he retired. But by
then my daughter had taken a course in cutting, and I decided to leave it longer,
so she does my trims now. I dread thinking about finding someone new when I
decide to go short again.
Edited to address Burnley's post: and I was very fortunate in that neither of the
men were expensive, and neither is my daughter! No, I won't spend mega bucks
on a hair cut either. Had a $120 one once, no better than any other, in my case.

I found out 10.00 or 100.00 you know what you want, here's how I do.Some hair stylist get to talking and the more they talk, the more they cut.So always have the chair turned so you can see the mirror, she will catch on,to what your doing. Then pay more attention to what she's doing.Or he whatever,I can never find 1 cut I like cause I like something different, usually the messie, wispy, look.I have usually about 3 styles I like so I have her to combine them, sounds hard it's not.Stylist say variety I can do that.I've had the same one for yrs. Don't ever just sit down and let them go,do their thing or you'll end up in a mess everytime.I've had 1 bad hair-cut yrs ago, that 1 broke me from just sittin down and not watching what was going on.Here's a tip mine does she keeps index cards on her work each customer she does everything, color, makeup she sells, that helps a lot.

Not more than 20 miles.......to tell you the truth I find that some of the gals at Wal-Mart give me as good a cut as some trendy shops I've frequented over the years and have have paid ridiculous prices for....I wear mine somewhat spiked and hi-lited so there's not too much muss and fuss in styling/cutting mine....when checking out the Wal-Mart Salons I just look for the gal/stylist who's hair is green, purple or yellow and who has piercings and tattoos....that's the gal who cuts my hair...

I agree with you! Or, I look for the most flamboyant gay guy! Just because I am a baby boomer and have
short hair does not mean I don't like jazzy haircuts!

I was going to someone near my office once a month- I think the cut was 75? And color was like 65? This was about 3 years ago... finally decided that was crazy, so now I go to SUPERCUTS... it's a chain... I pay $16 every 2 months or so... I'm trying to wear it longer now... and I color it at home for about 7 a month. And I'm just as happy as I was!
I wouldn't follow someone around tho, where I am there are enough hairdressers that you can pick and choose.
I did look into the guy who is on that show What Not To Wear.... He has a salon in downtonwn NYC and I thought it would be cool to go to him for a haircut... for him to cut your hair, it is like 600.... not so cool afterall.

I have been going to the same beautician for about 3 years now, she is from Romania..and I love how the eastern Europeans cut hair...this is the 2nd that I have known..and they manage to cut your hair, in a way, that never has that new haircut feel...and they listen to what you want. I travel 10 miles each way...and I would probably travel 20 each way to have her do it.

I have a favorite salon I go to. I've never been very brave with my hair, but these guys are awesome. They are close by my house now, but I have to admit, until I moved out this way, I drove 45 minutes for my haircut. They are a bit pricey (God I hope none ever see's that) I spend anywhere from 70 to 200. Good thing is though, I don't have to go to often. I only go maybe every 3-4 months, six at the most. With prices like that I can't afford monthly cuts, but they cut it to where the style just changes abit as it grows out so I don't have a horendous grow out phase for about 3-4 months (sweet).

I usually just go to the great clips and get an inch off every 6 months or so. Usually when I get a coupon for 5 dollar haircut. Yes I'm one of those guilty of old pic on profile, that pic is 4-5 years old I don't have any other pics of me on my computer I'm about 50 lbs lighter than that pic and my hair is long and straight.

I usually cut my own hair...I know how I like it and I'm usually disappointed when a stylist cuts it. I come home frustrated that I even paid them and end up reshaping it myself.
When I was young my mother always cut all the hair in the family. I was never in a beauty shop until after I was married.
I guess I picked it up from her (no, she isn't a stylist, she's 85 y/o and still cuts her own hair). I have cut family and friends' hair with no complaints unless behind my back.......
