I've heard that they're a superfood. I've also heard that they're carcinogenic (cause cancer). I've heard that you should eat them raw, and then I've heard that you should cook them.

Yes, it depends. Some are poisonous while others are nutritious. Still, some may be medicinal, like cordyceps which is used for energy, lion's mane for memory, shiitake for immunity and many more.
