Bulbs are produced underground & bulbils above ground. All parts of the plant are edible. Typically, the above ground scapes are removed to focus energy on bulb production. They require good drainage & no watering

I recently read that garlic should be planted in sept. of course that may vary some depending upon your location. I live in ms. If you live further north you probably can plant sooner. Talk to your local farm supply or coop when you go to buy garlic bulbs for planting.

Bulbs haven't been working very well for me when I get them from the store and they start sprouting. I did have some that went to seed; I will try my luck that way until I find out what I am doing wrong. I have some "free range" garlic that I hope grows and I have garlic in containers. The free range garlic is in the deep watering well of a bitter almond tree that I sometimes remember to deep water.
I am trying to go organic whenever possible.

Yup, grow a mess every year and sell it.
Look back a few pages, lots of good info in another garlic post or 2.
