The equivalent of the old prank phone calls.
But we grew out of it sooner, I guess.

Yes, because having fun at the expense of others is always a good time.

The real sad result of this kind of sophomoric behavior is that if a real question is posed, people won't believe it's not just another "dare". So, someone who is really hurting and needs support doesn't get it because others are afraid of being fooled.

They don't understand. Thank-God they haven't experienced our pain yet, but if they marry they will some-day. It just kind of makes me chuckle at how naive they are, like children.

Dare threads are those where someone from a different forum or group dares someone else to come into a group and post something, usually outrageous but could be true, and try to see how many you can get to fall for it, how many you can get to sympathize, and how long you can fool them.
They sit back and laugh at the "idiots" falling for it.
So you've got the feelings of being duped, the feelings of having wasted your time and advice, and the feelings of not trusting that the next thread is legitimate.
Then, they justify their manipulations with a "it's just the internet, geez, don't be so stupid. It's just a joke" as if no one actually lives and breathes and has emotions because we're all just a playground of pixels. Perfect way to wriggle out from any responsibility, and blame the victim of their "dare".
